In this modern age, no one is unaware of the importance, growth, popularity, and benefits of the Social Media like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and Pinterest. Some people use the Social media for the business promotion while a group of people use it exclusively for the purpose of entertainment. Either spending too much time or sharing too much of personal information are inevitably dangerous to the life of users.
I observe one thing for sure that nothing other than Social Media can help a writer to promote his works -- blogs or contents -- with an unimaginable speed. Obviously, Social Media is a common platform for everyone to promote numerous things from any corner of this world to the rest of the world.
Finally, the intention of using the Social Media and how prudently you use it will determine its benefits and consequences. How do you use the Social Media?

Social media has both good points and bad points. Used correctly, social media can be a good thing; used the wrong way, and it can be a bad thing. The secret is to find a balance.

Thanks for your opinion. Yeah, I also agree that using social media needs a lot of balance. You can not ignore your surroundings for your addiction to this. I mainly use these social networking sites for professional development as I am a freelance writer. The friends circle is limited and new addition depends on some crucial criteria. Although it is my personal opinion, but still I believe that to keep a healthy social and emotional balance a stringent attitude towards limitation is necessary. I really appreciate your discussion .

@vikran1978 Yes, you can take any thing in this world and everyone will be divided in to two groups, those who support it and those who don't.. Same goes with social networks too

For promoting my articles, interacting with people with the same interests, asking for help on various topics, helping others with their technical problems, sharing photos, for general entertainment, for breaking news, etc. I use specialised forums a lot for asking and answering questions and for discussing stuff.
I think overall social media is a good thing and a great communicative entity as long as we balance it with other activities. Over indulgence in anything while excluding other pastimes is bad, whether it be sport, reading, working or whatever. Teenagers always seem to have their heads stuck in a smartphone, and the dark side of social media is of course the issue of cyber bullying. This can potentially have serious consequences, if the victim is vulnerable.

Social media is just another form of communication, with its own rules and responsibilities. I think the important thing to remember is that it is no replacement for face to face communication. We still need to actually talk to our friends and family.
