Would You Like?

@NeldaHoxie made me think of this anecdote.
Once I was entering a department store in Montreal. I was holding my breath in preparation of getting past the perfume department as sometimes the scents can give me an instant headache.
There were several people entering so I easily avoided the young women carrying baskets of scented cards to hand out to customers.
Then I heard a man asking, "Would you like......?" (How do they automatically know to speak English to me?) He was holding a perfume spray bottle. I assumed he was going to say "Would you like a sample?" and spray me with it. And of course that is what he was going to do.
I put my hands up and jumped back startled. I said, "No!" a little too emphatically.
He said, "Ok, Ok you wouldn't like to have dinner with me. I get it."
I wish I had a quick wit like he did.

That's funny! See what you missed out on! Darn, where are those wits when you need 'em?

I always think of witty things to say after the fact. Well, maybe not witty things, but at least I can think of a reply afterward, but rarely at the right time.

That is just too funny. You got to love a salesman with a sense of humor... I don't cruise often (twice in my life) but both times I was stuck in a elevator with a woman who bathed in perfume. Why does one do that? Do they really think they smell good? Scents used to bother me a lot, so much so I couldn't go into a candle shop and when given candles with scents - I re-gifted them.

@paigea It may be there noses don't work so well anymore and they want to smell the lovely scent too. It could also be that they think they stink so bad they need the extra perfume. It could be many reasons. It may even be that they don't realize it's offensive to some people and less is better.

I'm not fond of perfume either. At least he didn't spray you despite your protest.

Probably your reaction brought that out. How could he have thought that you were not into perfumes as no lady resents perfumes (lol)

My daughter gets headaches from perfumes too. It seems even I am more sensitive to strong scents now than I once was. That young man was quick witted.
