FC Dinamo 1948 Bucuresti are in a strong position to qualify for the knockout rounds of the UEFA Cup after earning a 1-1 draw away to Club Brugge KV.
Brugge hope
Dinamo took the lead shortly after the half-hour when Claudiu Niculescu scored from close range, but the home side battled back in the second half and secured a point courtesy of Sven Vermant's 62nd-minute penalty. The Romanians lie second in Group B on four points with two games to play, while Brugge are third and still have a chance of progress going into their final match against Besiktas JK.
Reflex save
Both teams announced their attacking intentions in the opening stages and Salou Ibrahim forced Dinamo goalkeeper Uladzimir Hayeu into a superb reflex save. Club Brugge goalkeeper Stijn Stijnen also had to be at his best to keep out a vicious drive from Niculescu shortly afterwards. He then somehow stopped Adrian Ropotan's close-range effort seconds later as the Divizia A team threatened to take control.
Niculescu goal
The ebb and flow continued though as Manasseh Ishiaku had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock but was denied by the agile Hayeu. It was now only a matter of time before the opening goal came and it was the visitors who went in front on 33 minutes when Niculescu was on hand to stab home Cristian Pulhac's centre.
Vermant leveller
The Belgian club made a positive start to the second period but some stubborn defending ensured they were restricted to shots from distance. Nonetheless, they drew level when George Galamaz fouled Vermant in the area and the midfielder picked himself up to smash in the spot-kick. The lively Niculescu almost restored the away advantage but was frustrated by the excellent Stijnen, which was as close as either side came to a winner.
