My Worst Thanksgiving Ever

No one wants to have a bad holiday, but that's what mine was from beginning to end.
It started with a fight with my younger son. That got me late for dinner with my family at the restaurant. I'm usually the first to arrive. My sister called just as I turned down the road to the restaurant.
When I think of Thanksgiving and Christmas, I think about time spent with the family, the smell of turkey roasting in the oven or out, all the different foods everyone brought to enhance the meal, laughter, football, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and a wonderful exciting time for all. That didn't happen. We were in a restaurant. The food was served buffet style. We talked across from one another but there wasn't a whole table conversation where everyone entered in. On top of that I'm allergic to chicken and I think it was chicken gravy I put on my mashed potatoes. I had a seriously upset stomach last night. When dinner was finished we all went our separate ways home. The fun and laughter was completely missing.
I came home to another fight with my oldest son. That ended better than the fight to start the day.
And to add insult to injury the Packers lost to the Bears on their home field. It just wasn't a good day from beginning to end.
I really hope you had a good Thanksgiving. The good news - we're having Christmas at my sister's.
Thanks for reading.

There was one bright spot. It happened during the Packer game. My all time favorite quarterback rolled onto the field - Bart Starr. I used to carry his football card in my wallet in high school Other than that, yeah, not very good.

Sorry that you had such a disturbing Thanksgiving. I am not a big fan of holidays in a restaurant.

It happens. Those bad holiday certainly make the good ones more fond in our memories. May Christmas make up for it.

I'm sure it will. My sister and sister-in-law were talking about some fun games to play and grab bag gifts for the game. So I'm looking forward to it and finding something at the Dollar store for a grab bag gift.

When it was just the two of us, far away from family, my first husband and I had Thanksgiving in a restaurant, with a friend. It was an intimate meal, and okay. I cannot imagine it for any larger group. We visit from room to room, table to table, and basically play musical chairs. Yes, it is buffet style but everyone brings something. I am sorry your sons fight with you. That is too bad.

Sorry to hear that. My in laws are no longer doing home Thanksgivings. My sister in law finds it more convenient for her to have Thanksgiving earlier (so she can spend time with friends ON Thanksgiving) and at a restaurant so no one has to do anything and she can just leave right after. Last year was the worst because her friends came, she basically ignored the family, the restaurant was loud, it was a non-Thanksgiving. This year her bright idea was to go to the museum and eat lunch there - it was as an impersonal Thanksgiving, but fine by me as it was only a short time to endure. There were no arguments, but lovely family politics (for me) to deal with.

I went to my granddaughters house and my grandson was there to. We had a nice meal and stayed a couple of hours and we walked home in the dark. My grandson came over to our house later with fudge and sugar cookies he made. The day was perfect.

It sounds like a perfect day and the perfect way to end the day with fudge and sugar cookies.

Yeah, it's just not the same (restaurant vs someone's home) @just4him . A year ago my sister came to visit for Xmas and we had a fight about toilet paper for crying out loud. Ya just never know the outcome of a holiday. I couldn't believe the Packers lost either.

Yes, I did, but I could only talk to two of the other nine people at the table. It was very different.
