Limericks Anyone?

I just read a discussion (see below) by Janet, @jabo in which she wrote a few limericks and then asks others to join in the fun of trying their hand in writing one or several. She asked that same question on the other site and while searching for my lost posts, I happened upon this one I wrote at that time.
I put it together quickly, and I know it's not quite right with meter and such.
There once were lots of guys 'n gals
Who soon enough became pals
Through sharing and reading
They soon became needing
To encourage each other's morales.
On a writing site did they all meet
Any day or night they'd make sure to greet
'Twasn't very long at all
Before they all had a ball
Their friendships becoming a sweet treat
Janet's recent post:
This old gal attempted some odes Tried my hand at differing modes, You don't have to read, But my heart it will bleed If you think I should stick to my...

Dear me, 'M Koalemos
For your rhymes I'd never stick up my nose,
I'd listen all day
and never go out to play,
Just give us your gracious logos
(logos is Greek for word)

There was a place called MyLot.
The Bubbly place soon I forgot.
I found my old friends,
The writing begins,
What an awesome hangout spot.

Thank you @MarshaMusselman and yes, ever since I first began to read @jaboUK s limericks on Bubblews I've tried to get past those first 2 lines but so far it's all I can think of on one subject. I am a simpleton

@rebelann And, it can seem hard to do even if in your native tongue, but until you give it more of a go you won't know. Maybe you'd win the prize after all, hmm? Did you know they were meant to be silly rhymes? When I found that out, that made it much easier to write.
Have you ever looked them up before? Here's some examples:

I wouldn't call that rubbish, Maggs. I wouldn't call it a limerick, but you probably know it was mainly a poem rather than the other. Sometimes I have to rearrange the words in a sentence or line to get it to work right and other times I just get it out and don't worry about the form at all.

These are great to read,
I just found them perky,
A laugh here and there too,
And thought some were poo,
So what do I know anyway?

Good try there. If you've written these before i think you're out of practice as the first, second and last line is supposed to rhyme too. But, love the thought.

@celticeagle I like attempts, so attempt away. You have the right idea especially with the last line.

I tried to do one, got about 2 lines in when I got stuck. Well, I think I'll leave this kind of poetry to those who think fast, I'm just not one of em. That really was a kool set of limericks @jaboUK wrote.
Looks like you've learned to as well, good one.

@rebelann It just takes a bit of practice, Ms. rebelann. Janet-Jabo waits for inspiration, or an idea to form first, for me I just need to make up my mind to put something together. There are many places to find listings of rhyming words and I think that sometimes can be the hardest part.
Since Janet has had so much practice, she makes it look easy and it looks like @Asylum can roll them off her fingers as well.
Not everyone's as quick as Asylum
Even then, no need to be glum
Just get out a book
And take you a look
I'll bet you could find us a crumb
(That would normally take me much longer to come up with, and if I did the rhyme better, it probably would have-taken longer).

@rebelann That's kind of funny, Rebelann. Sounds like you're volunteering for the job. Does that mean you might translate and also get the limerick in there too?

I can shutter
but with words I stutter.
Hey, I can get two lines to rhyme but after that I'm totally lost

@rebelann I can paint but I am not an artist with words.
Have you ever read any of James Lee Burke mysteries.(he has two series, one in Louisiana (my favorite) and one take place in the Western US. He is a favorite of mine because he can paint fabulous scenes with words.

I can't write a limerick you see
the talent just isn't in me.
I could try I suppose
while wearing red hose
But what do I do with my knees?

Very well written. I've written limericks in the past. Mine are of the humorous variety.

That's what limericks are, Steve, Just as @pgntwo said. Not only are they to be humorous, but silly too. The sillier the better in fact. You could share one of yours here or on your own post.

Just takes a bit of practice. Have you ever written poetry before? Rather than rhyming each line or every two lines the first, second and fifth lines rhyme and the third and fourth lines rhyme. It can tell a story, but it can be silly too.
Did you peek at the link I provided on limericks? Many of them are quite funny and there are a lot of older ones about that are available online if you ever want to check them out. They may be easier than you're thinking they'd be.

Sorry. Actually, someone did think it was a bit racy, but that wasn't my intent. I wrote it for the other site and there it wasn't so much an even mix of guys and gals, or it didn't seem that way to me, so I added a few words and change some to fit this location.
I've written longer limericks, one was a tribute to my mother. I may post that one later in the year, we'll see. I've done some, but I'm not as prolific as Janet/jabo is with them.

Your last sentence could have two meanings, but I'm guessing you're saying you'll pass on writing your own limerick.

@MarshaMusselman Exactly. There are two poems I don't write - limericks and Haiku - Haiku I don't understand at all. To write a limerick would take more work than my brain could handle. I remember doing them in school. Yes, I'll pass on doing my own limericks.
