Yesterday we went to visit my Mom who lives in Italy. The day was freezing cold, when we left, early in the morning, the grounds and fields were covered with ice. I was coughing for a couple of days, the cold day and the Milan pollution did not help. When we were back home, in the evening, I did not feel well at all. I coughed all the night and today I also have a running nose. I am going to rest today, drink plenty of liquid and stay warm. Which is your favorite cold and cough remedy? It doesn't matter what kind of remedy you use. If you use nothing, the cold will stay with you for seven days. If you take something, it'll last for one week.

Yes, this is what my brother always tells me (he is a doctor). I think the best is to stay at home and avoid to contaminate the others.

@JudyEv There are things that should follow their natural healing time.

I think this is quite true. It's like a broken toe, it takes six weeks to heal if you strap and the same if you don't.

Hot milk and honey usually sets me back on track. Staying in the warm, even with a hot water bottle helps too. I am sorry that you are not feeling well and hope that you have nothing serious and that you will soon be feeling better again

@Asylum Barry do you believe that howling at the full moon could be the cause? May be my lycanthrope fur is not thick enough.

The last time I had a cold, I tried those zinc lozenges. Honestly, they did help a lot. They reduce the symptoms, especially the cough, throat and nose symptoms.

I think if you add a little chicken soup, saline nasal spray and green tea with honey, you have my remedy. I also take Zicam at the first symptom and it shortens the duration.

Going to the doctor is what we do. And that will happen for my husband tomorrow. He has been coughing for two days and he has a temp and he's grumpy - that's a sure sign he's sick. Are you feeling better? It seems lots of people are sick.

My favorite remedy for almost anything is fresh pineapple. I think I may make some ginger tea though and put some honey in it. I like ginger for many things.

Honey is good for the cough and we usually drink warm milk. It's nothing serious, but it's not funny.

i am coughing too. It does not help that the weather is alternate rain and shine. I take cough syrup and I know that I just have to sleep well and sleep enough to ward off the cough.

Basil is supposed to be good. So is, ginger. Ginger finely chopped with a little bit of lemon and salt is my recipe ..though too much of it can make you feel terrible. We get dried gooseberries...they chop gooseberries, soak them for sometime in water containing salt and black pepper. These pieces are then dried in sun. It can be kept in mouth for longer for desired relief. I don't know if it has any other benefit though.

Best you can do is drink plenty of liquids and rest as much as possible. I doubt anything cures a cold. Feel better

I agree, a cold takes about one week to go and there is nothing that can really help. Today the nose is running, tomorrow it will be stuffed, the usual routine.

OH dear poor you! I hope you feel better soon. You know it has been scientifically proven that chicken soup is good for colds. Make a big pot of chicken soup with onion carrot pepper and some salt boil the life out of it and then eat the soup. Also drink plenty of honey and lemon juice with some paracetamol to help reduce any fever.

Vince swears by a drink called Stone's Green Ginger, rubbed liberally on the chest - from the inside (which means you drink it - and a lot of it). Seriously though, I'm sorry you're not well. I hope you feel better soon.

In the Romanian language there is something called "codeina". I don't know the corresponding word in the English language for that chemical. It might be "codeine". So, try something codeine based.
