Some People

I saw this meme on Facebook today, and it really made me think:
"Some people want a big house, a fast car, and lots of money."
"Some people want a tiny cabin in the woods away from those kinds of people."
Which person are you?
I am definitely the person who wants the cabin in the woods! Honestly, I've already had the big house, the fast car, and lots of money, but do you know when I was the happiest? It was when I lived in a tiny apartment, rode a bike everywhere because I couldn't afford a car, and was broke beyond belief. Because it was in those times that I learned to appreciate what really mattered in life. It sure wasn't the big house, fast car, and piles of money!
So yes, please give me the cabin in the woods!

@KristiSCash Yes, we all still need our basic survival needs...food, shelter, water, etc. And once those needs are met, then we can experience the love and joys of our surroundings. I have been working hard to simplify my life, and it has been quite exhilarating to get so much weight off my chest!

Exactly! I don't need a "big" house or "lots" of money, but I need the essentials and at least a little bit of comfort. :)

I have a modest home on the edge of a very small town and that is good to me. Money does not make people happy.

@kyrararen Jut remember, the bigger your house, the harder it is to take care of and keep clean!

I had a huge home, and then I downsized to a smaller home, and it is still too big! I'm getting ready to downsize even further, possibly next year. I have come to the realization that I want to live as simply as possible!

@Hatley That is so true! That's why I'm trying to instill the value of hard work into my children! I want them to appreciate what they have, and know that they've worked hard for it, rather than had everything handed to them on a silver platter!

I saw that same poster on someones page on facebook. I like the country life. My wife grew up in the city so she misses the convenience and she probably wouldn't want a cabin in the woods unless the store was something she could easily walk to. She wouldn't want a fancy fast car but she would want a gas efficient car and as for money she would probably take us all on a trip around the world to see all of the historical landmarks and things which we otherwise would only be able to experience through books and tv.

@moffittjc I would be the one wanting the cabin in the woods! I've always wanted to go live out there. It would be beautiful out in the nature.

Those cabins in the woods may or may not have running water, plumbing, or electricity! Or, if they do have running water, there may not be any hot water! Are you prepared to live in those kinds of conditions? haha

I would also like to have a cabin of woods in a forest, where I could stay with peace. In the cities noise pollution is causing so many diseases like anxiety and stress.

@moffittjc Yes, you are so right a cabin in woods will give a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature.
It will not only allow us to feel better but we could breath fresh air, which is fast diminishing in Metro cities.

It would also give you a chance to reconnect with nature, and numerous studies have shown that the great outdoors can relax us and take away stress and anxiety. Not to mention the clean, fresh air that you would be breathing! I would love nothing more than to live in a cabin in the woods!

I totally agree with you, I may sound cliched but a big heart is more important than a big house or... We live in a big house and garden the upkeep of which exhausts me and I dream of building a small house with a small garden and moving in there ..

More money just means more problems. Still waiting for our economy and society to figure that out and go back to making a more balanced system. I am with you. I do not want much and do not need much. Society seems to keep trying to tell me and people in general otherwise. Glad some people get it. I also think if people want all that then let them, but they need to let us do our thing also.

@crossbones27 I found that going to the archives, and starting all the way back at his first post in 2012, was very helpful for me.

After looking at some pictures from Dubai the other day it looked like there was a lot of people driving fast cars with lots of money over there but not sure I would want that kind of life for long. I miss my little cabin the woods but not the bugs but then you can't have everything. If I was to move again would rather have a healthy living style over a crazy hectic one.

@Hatley It is definitely very expensive to live in California. I had a very rude awakening when I tried to move there many years ago. I'm sure it's even worse now than it was back then.

I am sort of in between I just want enough money to be comfortable and not have to stress every month about whether the bills are going to get paid but I don't want a bit house and flash car and those material things x

I think each and every one of us has to find that balance of what works best for us! Obviously, some people will feel more comfortable with bigger and/or more possessions, and some people will feel more comfortable with smaller and/or less possessions.

@shellyjaneo There is no doubt in my mind that most of those people probably put themselves into a l to of debt to buy all that "stuff" that they don't even really need! And then they can't even enjoy that "stuff," as they are too stressed out from being in debt!

@moffittjc I think a lot of those people who think they will be happy with lots of stuff realise in the end that it's not worth it especially if they stressed there selves out or got into debt to get those things x

I would not be happy with loads of money, Sure it would be nice but I would be scared all of the time and just not for me. I would prefer a cabin in the woods too L.O.L. No big huge house payment and as for cars? I hate new cars so expensive!! I love older cars but yea now a days they are even expensive but I just like them better. I was like you happy in my Apartment but now me and my husband live in a house well it is really my Mother and Fathers house but we pay all bills here and believe me I think I was more happy in a tiny apartment no yard work there L.O.L. But I have grew to call it home but it isn't a huge house just a small house in the suburbs and I love all the neighbors around here. It is just a quite little city and I love it I guess. Just would not want to live in no huge house with huge payments, Like the rent, Water and especially the electric bill!! No way I like my small house even though at times I do miss our apartment but this is home now.

Haha, right! I didn't specify that it was a RUSTIC cabin, just a cabin! I, too, would need electricity and indoor plumbing in my cabin!

I feel the same way! I have been downsizing my life so much over the past year, and I feel so much better doing it! Pretty soon I will be down to just the basics, and life will be so much simpler and easy then!
