Whole Body Donation

Here in my country it's almost a necessity to get memorial plans to prepare for ones own death or for a loved ones death to save those left behind from the burden of having to pay excessive amount of money required to bury the remains of a dearly departed. There is an option that completely sets free those left behind from all these expenses and that is donating the whole body to science. This is not very commonly known and advertised here in my country. I am seriously contemplating taking this option but it is not very clear how i go about it . Are you willing to donate your whole body to science and give hope to the future of our generation?

Yes, i have that in mind actually . But what we have told our daughter is for us to be cremated when we die . And now perhaps before being cremated some useful parts could be donated .

Organ donation is a very noble act. So many are lining up and waiting for years to have organ transplant surgeries that could give them new lives.

@SIMPLYD A great number of children is part of that long queue of very sick individuals waiting for organ donors. Some of them die while waiting in line.

Yeah!! I have planned that by the time I reach 40, I will fill out this form if my body stays healthy!! And I think this is a nice step to help medical science !!

Unhealthy bodies are just as valuable for young doctors to learn by dissection. I think 'whole body' rather than organ donation is usually for that purpose.

@Rationalwriter Hi!!! @Boingboing is correct ...even unhealthy bodies qualify for whole body donation and there is no limit regarding age of donor.

I think it's really good to have such plans. I have not heard about donating the whole body, but I have signed up to donate my organs. I am fine with donating my whole body, as I think it's good for students who are learning. I will find out more about this in my country.

Its the same situation here in my country. Organ donation is common but very little information is given about whole body donation to science unlike in the US or in Europe where in a lot of organizations are in need of whole body donors.

We have this law in our country too, but I have not registered for it. I think if we die young, our organs will be useful to others. If we live to 100 and then die, then our organs are not good at all.

@scheng1 In whole body donation to science there is no age limit at all and even those who die of an illness are accepted as donors. But in organ donation ...when we get to be 100 years old i think our organs would not be acceptable at all for transplant.

@Gabugs Oh wow! I thought when we become too old our organs and tissues wont be of any use to a younger patient anymore. This is such an eye opener @Gabugs

@mammots It all depends on the doctors and deceased condition at that time.

It wouldn't bother me at all as I am going to be cremated anyway. My father had a very rare disease and he donated his body to the organization that is working on a cure for it.

That is indeed a good choice but as you say, it isn't talked about very much. I have a friend who plans to have this but I have no such plans. Blessings.

@hereandthere I am from Cebu. I will have to choose an institution that's based in my province. I already have one in mind. At the right time i will approach this institution and ask if they accept whole body donation.

If my sister will not allow me to donate my whole body to science then i would also prefer to be cremated and my ashes be placed in a columbarium.

We have opted for cremation too. Only difference would be to first donate.

Why not instead of being put in a box and just being their your remains will be used to find cures for illness experiments to see if it can help future generations.

So true! If all of us would be willing to donate organs to ailing patients then the long list will be diminished.

@mammots It's sad because we need ways to test some of the potential cures but we don't always have the things we need to do so.
