My Love/Hate Relationship With Christmas

It's that time of the year again. As usual, it came too quickly. It seems like we just caught our finances up from last years spending spree. But, here we go again. Hustling and bustling to get the perfect gift, spending more than we can afford, eating more than we should, etc., etc. Sometimes, I hate Christmas. Yet, I love Christmas, because I love what Christmas stands for. Ahh, it's a love/hate relationship with Christmas. Here's what I love: It's Jesus Christ's Birthday I love giving gifts I love that people are nicer this time of year. I love that family's are a little closer (and nicer to each other, even if just for one day) Here's what I hate: It's Jesus' birthday, it's not Santa Claus day. Can we please celebrate the person the day was made for instead of glorifying and giving credit to a non-existent character? I hate spending money that I don't have and feeling obligated to do so. I hate that people can't be nice every day of the year. I hate that family is only family when it's Christmas, yet they have no time for you the other 364 days of the year. In light of the hates I have for Christmas, I recently changed how my family and I celebrate Christmas. The day was intended for Jesus. We celebrate his birthday with a birthday cake and we sing happy birthday to Jesus. Not all of my family loves this part of the day, but too bad, If you're at my house on Christmas, you will celebrate Jesus' birthday. I have also cut way down on my Christmas spending because I finally realize that it's not the cost of the gift, it's the thought behind the gift.I also don't buy for those who I don't see the other days of the year. If you can't be bothered with me those days, don't bother me on Christmas. We will be too busy singing Happy Birthday to our Savior!
