No Family?

My mind is going through a process of trying to figure out why.. Yesterday I read the Obituary of a man who passed away. He lived in the nursing home where my mother is. It was a short obituary. Naming no one in it as family only saying his Huronlea family (Huronlea is he name of the nursing home) Everyone has a life story. This one I've seen numerous times and it always breaks my heart. Did his family disown him? Did he get Amnesia and forget who he was? Did he get lost somewhere in life and no one could find him? then of course the crazy part of my brain wonders.. was he an alien?

It is sad when you come across elderly people like that, who apparently have no family. Or, if they do have family, their family disowned or abandoned them for whatever reason. Regardless, I hope that person lived a wonderful life!

No, he surely was not an alien, but there are several people in the nursing homes without a story and this is too sad.

@LadyDuck yes I do know there are quite a few where my mother is that have no visitors. I always try to share a little of my time with them

I worked in Social Services in a nursing home. Two particular deaths cross my mind in that line. Those two people had mental handicaps and their families pulled back from them long before they entered the home. They both had caring guardians, but they did not mention them in the obits.

@GardenGerty I guess we never know the entire story of someones life. Bless you for caring for those in nursing homes. It really takes special people for that.

Maybe he has no close family in the area that would read the obituary. Maybe they are very distant and live far away, or like you say, they are estranged. I have already told my brother that I don't expect my "mother's" obituary to list my name, since she disowned me a long time ago.

@CRanney And I feel pain for him too, because as an "outcast" I know how it feels.

Its possible that this man outlived his family. Maybe he never married nor had children?

It is sad when this happens maybe he outlived everyone. Or maybe he was not very popular. It is a shame and it would be interesting to know his story.

@suzzy3 Yeah it sure would be. I have a strange interet in obituaries. I love reading a little bit about peoples stories they are always fascinating. The fact that this man was always smiling makes me want to know even more.

It really is sad but depending on his age, he might have outlived his family.

@amnabas It more than likely is very common in the Usa. I am in Canada and every now and then I see this but not too often.

It is sad but it seems to be a trend nowadays that when one gets old and die, some of their immediate family do not have anything to do with them anymore.

@vickyrose I guess this is something I rarely noticed before. But I can see how if people were estranged they wouldn't be included.

You have some fun ideas. Was he really old, he may have outlived everyone he knew.
