MyLot and Bubblews Tags are Magical

I just responded to a discussion by @TheHorse . He was saying how some thoughtful and interesting discussions on myLot seem to just lie there (they are invisible), while other, completely mundane discussions that are written off the cuff zoom to the top. I am sure we have all noticed the same thing. I don’t think this is actually due to glitches or timing, I think it is to do with the tags, or topics we write on.
Not surprisingly (to me) that post is now number one on the hot topics. I believe that is because of the tags he used in his post. So, this post of mine is a test. I have used the exact same tags on my post that he used on his. We shall see if this post, similarly rises to the top.

@Asylum I actually use all of the tabs. I first respond to comments on my discussions, then I go to "People" and see what my favorite people are reading, then I go to Explore. The first thing I see there is "Interesting." If I have recently written a post about Thanksgiving, I will see lots of Thanksgiving posts there. Then the title becomes important.

I tend to find topics in the "recent" tab. Occasionally I do go to Hot topics and other fields but recent is my favorite.

I personally don\'t see this one. Top means a lot of activity on the post. This has nothing to do with tags. It has to do with likes and comments. Post that normally have MyLot in the title or something in the first 2 lines do a lot better. Plus it all has to do with home many posts you comment on. For example if I come and comment on your and a lot of other then normally they will come and find one or two of mine to comment on. Post that get higher up seem to draw a lot more attention. I have been checking this out for a time.

I'm still learning how tags work. I just try to use ones that are relevant to a post. Maybe I'll do a MyLot-related post (they generally get lots of reads) but intentionally post tags about "blue sky, bunnies, unicorns" and such, and see if it still gets lots of reads.

@norcal The interesting discussion are based on what tags you use. The site looks at all of your tags and then puts up stuff that according to your tags.
The hot one is from the most activity on a post.
Most recent is like you know all new stuff.
Top rated and hot are basically the same it depends on comments and likes.
People is your best best. These are posts that people write that you follow. It is easier to find stuff in there than the other places.
Some things are strange on here. I can add a post and maybe 4 or 5 days later it will take off and everyone comments on it. This can go on for over a week or more and people just keep adding and adding to it. Then on the other hand I can do one and it won't move at all. So I guess it is who is interested in the stuff or what mood they will be in today to answer and comment.
I get a lot more comments on my stuff when I visit other posts and leave comments. When I am busy and don't comment as much on other posts I don't get a lot of comments on mine. So it is like this most of the time for me.

So, what do you think causes people to like and comment on a post? First they have to see the post. If people go to the Explore tab, the first thing they see is "Interesting" discussions. If they only interact by responding to people who have interacted on their own posts, then a lot of interaction on the part of the author will be important.

I wondered the same thing and was told that everyone will see different things in their interesting list. It depends on topics you have written about in the past and you will never see your own posts in the interesting list. That's the answer I received from The Grinch.

Sure, the hot topics seem to stay the same for a long time. And, I am not saying that should be the goal (to get to Hot Topic). I was just trying to answer the question of why some great posts don't get any attention, while some mundane posts (like this one) get a lot.

@TheHorse Of course, we all have myLot in common. It's not surprising that many people are "Interested" in that. Many of us also have a past affiliation with Bubblews. Many of us also will have other common interests, like Paris and Thanksgiving.
When we start to move to more obscure topics, like music, travel, or wood working, there will be fewer people who have written about them, so fewer people will be "Interested."
I think more established people who have more myLot followers, and more active people will have more visitors to their more obscure posts.

I found this post from the Most Recent section, but like what @Dalane said I also read somewhere that it has to do with the tags that people use in their own discussions.

I found this post by its title, not its tags.
