Yesterday there was a surprise awaiting us...More so,to my friend... They came to see the gal for marriage, and went. And within 4 hours they came again, this time to put the beautiful ring in her finger as a mark of engagement! And today morning, she had a flight, for her home! I wish i could also get such a surprise, wheneva it is! ;) coz i don't believe in love marriages...i mean, i feel there won't be anything exciting since both know each other.. So wats ua take? wat kind of engagement u wish to 've yours ;) or the one u had ? ;)

Really?? So in 4 hours both got to know each other so well, that they are ready to marry each other!! I thought people are getting smart in our country, but as it seems, it isn't the case!! Everyone shouts 'Love marriages are bad, and arrange marriages are good', well here is an eye opener for you:- I cannot ruin my and another girl's life by just marrying her after seeing and talking to her just once!! I need to know that our thinking is alike, so that our future can be harmonious!! Now you will say, that arrange marriages don't end in divorce, right?? This is because the same men and women in India are too blind and afraid to call it off because otherwise, the society will say something!! If people cannot live their life according to themself, then maybe treating marriage like a business deal and relationship becoming a commodity is what these people deserve!!

True, but the point here is,for the girls in India, getting married is hard. When the gal is of age,she is shown to umpteen guys before finally the match is fixed.SO for Mehmal's friend ,it was quite a cakewalk :)

And Nitin, I think there should be something new when you get married.I feel marrying a known guy is boring,as stupid as it may sound.

Though I am not a supporter of arranged marriages as well, I do wish your friend will live happily together with her husband. We didn't have engagement, but just went to register and had the traditional Chinese wedding ceremony. It was not a surprise for us, as we discussed our wedding. But, I really enjoyed the wedding preparations as both of us did everything together and those were lovely and sweet moments for us. Hope you'll get a surprise engagement as you wish.

@mehmal Surely there are always happy and sad moments, but since we have been together for many years and understand each other better, we are living happily together with our two children now. Love marriages can be sweet and lovely as well.

Are you saying that this girl's boyfriend proposed or that her family arranged a marriage for her? I don't think I could truly do with an arranged marriage. I feel that there is much to be desired and too much control given to only one party.

Very true!! I am a person from a strict orthodox thinking family, and yet I have my eyes opened to look into the reality of the world!! I wonder how people dont see that!!
