The Grand Palace Bangkok.

We visited the Grand Palace in Bangkok again as I loved walking around the place the previous time we were in Bangkok. This time it was absolutely jammed packed with tourists including large groups of school children on a day visit from schools out in the countryside of Thailand. For many it was the first time they had been there. The palace was built around 1782 during the reign of King Rama I and has been the official residence of the Siam Royal family since then. The current King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) still uses the palace for official duties although he lives in another palace which is quieter than the Grand Palace. Had he lived here I doubt that tourists would be allowed to wander around as freely as they can do now. I have put together a small photo slide of my visit to the Grand palace which can be found here. I hope you enjoy the little 2 minute video. I don't know if you remember the story of the King and I. It was based loosely on a story of a British governess who was employed to teach the Kings many children. .Anna Leonowens was the governess. It has been turned into a novel, play and Film. Yul Brynner was brilliant as the king an Deborah Kerr amongst many others played Anna. We have booked to see the King and I on Broadway when we visit in March. ENJOY!
I created this video with the YouTube Slideshow Creator (http://www.youtube.com/upload)

I was there a few years ago but didn't possess a camera in those days, so it was great to see yours. Thanks.

When we were on our last cruise we loved the temples initially, but toward the end of the trip we were templed out.

It can get a bit like that. Similarly with Roman ruins sometimes you just feel worn out putting them into context!

Yul Brynner was fantastic as the King. I imagine had he not done it Telly Savalas would have been good too although he looked too Greek!
