Things My Kids Will Never Know....

I wrote about a washboard (kind of) in my last post. It got me thinking about things my kids will never know about.
washboards
chalk boards (They have "smart boards" now)
The little dot in the middle of the tv screen ( I can remember watching it get smaller and smaller when the tv was turned of with that HUGE knob)
Telephone cords
popcorn not made in the microwave
not having a microwave
not having popcorn
games you couldn't play with your thumbs
real hard wood floors
what are some things you can think of??

Having to get up and walk over to the TV and change the channel with a dial. And there were only three stations.

Wringer washers, reel to reel tape recorders... They do know real hardwood floors because they were throughout my parents' house and in the house we live in now (because it's old). But I really miss the old days of television. Three channels and so much to watch. Nowadays there are hundreds of channels and nothing worth watching on TV.

Isn't that the truth about tv. I don't even have a tv. When I did and had cable I never could find anything worth watching except an occasional movie, even then the new ones have little substance. It is a shame they will never know what joy we had with all the great shows.

Send them to my house - I have a telephone cord and real hardwood floors (I wouldn't have laminate)

I meant the kind in old cabins and such. I will send them to see your phone cord though. Be prepared for the monkeys!

Slide shows of photos, clothes lines and close pins, an out house, a radio that was taller then they were, sitting in front of the radio listening like we they sat in front of the TV. My kids were children before cell phones and computers.

Typewriters, dial phones, phones plugged into the wall, roller skates with skate keys, playing outside. I don't see kids outside anymore, they are all hooked to their video games. Gas under a dollar. Drive-in movies. The list is long and I can see other answers below.

Big Cell Phone with the cord hooked to it. You could not remove it from your car to talk. It had a huge case that the cell sat in.

actual children's TV rather than teatime soap operas for adults, family listening to the radio together, Computer games that only worked if you plugged them into the TV set, not worrying about perverts and abandoned parcels,

About a year ago my kid was making popcorn in the microwave. It smells just awful. So I showed him how to make popcorn the old way, on the stove in a pot. He loved it. Now he won't eat popcorn any other way and it's way better than that microwave mess.
