Haiku V Limericks

Having presented daily Haiku for a while I now see other poets here writing limericks which I rarely write, so which are best. I thought they ought to fight it out, and you can see it all word for word.
A mylotter called Arthur wrote Haiku
When everyone else chose to do
Limericks instead
He went off his head
“Why 5 lines when just 3 will do?”
Your limericks rhyme
My Haiku manage without
Short and to the point.
You’re too lazy to write two lines more
Even paired couplet stanzas have four
I’m not trying to be funny
We give better value for money
Your efforts are exceedingly poor,
If measuring words
Write sonnets or villanelle
Concise is enough.
The haiku wins, the bard declares
Limerick insulted my rhyming pairs
For which points have been deducted
If only the contest had been better conducted.

Though a haiku can inspire awe,
A lim'rick can say a lot more,
I try to be funny
And make it seem sunny,
A haiku to me is a chore.
The limerick is meant to be comical,
Whimsical, silly, nonsensical,
I hope you like mine,
But I'll try not to whine
If you think my efforts pathetical.

I knew Jabo could never resist
Adding her own to the list
Such a talent has she
That this had to be
An opportunity not to be missed

@arthurchappell Thanks Arthur - I was so busy composing my rhyme that I forgot to say how good yours are - you are very versatile.

oh I loved it! Limerick and haiku war is something I can honestly say I have never seen.... and had to go do it....
A battle of wits normally takes two
not just between both you and you
They are often times funny
and occasionally punny
with kudos so many times due.

Limerick is a town just down the road from me
Not a place I wanted to see
Has a reputation for being rough
Not a place to have a laugh
Haiku is in Hawaii, a much better place to be

@Drosophila Thanks. I knew about Limerick in Ireland but I never knew there is a place called Haiku - how lovely.

@arthurchappell Incidentally the place has way better weather etc. All in all I think this settles the Limerick versus Haiku debate. xD

Quite interesting and wonderful. I enjoyed reading it.
You are always with me
day in and day out
you make me laugh,
you make me cry
who you are?

This round goes to the haiku!
Waiting what the limericks will do in the next verbal battle between these two lyrical giants!

many limericks are quite rude as the format lends itself well to bawdy rhymes

it can be quite a contrived thing writing to set rhyme/syllable patterns anyway
