Daddy Mend It

My husband and I were laughing today about the old days when our son was young. One day he bought me a mangled mess of plastic and expected me to do my usual magic but to be honest it was impossible to even figure out what toy it was. Normally after a bit of superglue and a small screwdriver I could work my magic but on this particular occasion I had to admit to this small child with big blue ,hopeful eyes I was defeated and could not mend this toy. He said" never mind mummy " I was so relieved and went to throw it in the bin. "No mummy Daddy mend it. " I put the broken mess on top of the freezer and expected him to forget about it. As soon as his dad came home from work he called out " Daddy Mend it" and pointed to mangled mess on top the freezer . I laughed and said good luck. From then on his dad checked the top of the freezer and waited to here those words "Daddy Mend it" At 22 he still brings his Dad stuff to mend.

Wow! What a touchingly beautiful story. Indeed, kids have not only selective, but powerful memories. This clearly indicated that your son has immense confidence in his parents knowing the they will never let him down. Kudos!

@suzzy3 Believe me, having been an educator, mother, & now a grandma. Besides, had delved into child psychology in my college years.

I always wanted everything fixed and did not want anything tossed away. I think it can be a good point of view. Less wasteful. I am glad his daddy was able to fix things.

My son treasured his toys , we have most of them in the loft, although he is slowly moving them to his flat for his baby due next week. Mind you the little baby will not be able to play with trains sets for a while.

No matter what our son gave him he managed to fix it. Obviously some bits were beyond repair. But on the whole he did really well.
