Do you still use an advent calendar?

We're doing an advent calendar this year. No chocolates. Little hand blown tree ornaments instead of tasty candy. The little ornaments are in little wooden cubby holes, in a wooden cupboard. Quite pretty. I thought doing this activity would be a way for Mom to keep track of the days. So far I'm not getting much of a reaction from her.
