We have had many pets in the course of several years. We loved each and every one of them the same way we have loved those close to us. Sadly however when we lose our pets we bury them without telling anyone about it in that no one will be there to watch that ceremony. I feel gloomy thinking about this. I hardly have had anyone enquiring after our pets' health too. Is this not a sad situation?

Pets do become quite integrated into the family to some degree, especially over a long period of time. This is particularly hard for a young child to accept.

@allknowing That is perfectly understandable because the pet has far less significance to a non family member than a person would have.

@allknowing This is because a human is considered far more important than a pet. A pet only has a special value to the family itself.

It is natural for friends and relatives to inquire about your health, and not your pets. They probably cannot tell the difference from one cat to another, or one dog to another. They are more likely to think of your pets as just cat or dog, and they are likely to remember your pets only when the pets urinate on them or bite them.

Little do they know the role an animal can play in one's life. They are a therapy for many a sad human being. They are far better than those unmanageable kids that visit you.

@allknowing I know what you mean.My brother used to make fun of my mother because she usually asked me how my pet dog was doing. That was one person who treated the pet as one of the family.Generally most people don't care.

Considering that they are a part of the family when those close to you do not bother about enquiring it shows they have no genuine feelings for the person itself.

@allknowing You are right .It shows they do not care how the person is feeling.

It is sad when our pets are so much a part of our lives. We hope someone will notice and ask.

So sorry to here about you losing your pets. To me a pet is apart of your family. I have a dog and she is older I know, that when she goes it will be like losing a member of the family because that is what she is.

No doubt they are a part of the family but those who are close to us do not miss them the way we do.

Losing any kind of pet is sad as they our like family to you. I lost a pet when i was little but never had any since then. I just have my mom's dog whenever i visit her and she's getting old too.
