The gift card plan

The gift card plan is the method we are using to plan for a project we are working on. We are currently fixing the place we live in and since it needs extensive repairs it will not be cheap or fast.
We really weren't sure what to do because if you keep money on hand and something comes up its too easy to access and spend. We didn't want to put it in the bank because that means a trip to find an ATM for our bank and there are none close by.
After a little bit of thinking and brainstorming together we figured the best way to achieve our goal was very simple and staring us in the face. Simply use the gift cards we have to the places we are going to shop at for the items.
We can add to the list we currently have. Then any spare money we have whether it be change or a few lose extra bills we will put them aside and when we go to the store add the funds to the cards. We mostly use walmart. We have walmart cards which are reloadable.
If we can't make it up to walmart we can just buy a walmart gift card and have it loaded if the retailer won't reload the already preused card we already have and then when we go to walmart have the cashier just put all of the funds on to one or two cards!

when the time comes we will be able to go on a big shopping spree which my wife loves. She gets excited about any kind of shopping even if its food shopping she said its a feeling that is empowering because she is spending money which we don't get to do as much as we would like to due to little funds. She feels like shes rich i suppose.

I knew an older lady on another site that bought all new appliances, one at a time, with Home Depot cards that she earned online. That site was never as good for me as myLot, though. Good luck with working on your house. I probably should do the same.

@lokisdad I am earning about $50 a month from SB that I take as Amazon. MyPoints and Inbox Dollars are similar sites.

@patsiehatley I am hoping we get some gift cards to home depot or lowes to go towards some of the cost of the repairs lol.

Excellent! I think your plan is good - because you can buy almost anything at Walmart it seems. Whether it be home improvement items, car repair things, groceries, etc. It's cool too because some online earning places pay out in gift cards - not sure if Walmart is one of them - but I always save up all the Amazon gift cards I earn throughout the year and put them toward Christmas presents!

Yes walmart seems like a great choice I am looking into lowes and home depot as well because they mostly focus on home improvement and they both have people to help you with home improvement projects which sadly walmart doesn't offer. They sell you the stuff but nobody hardly to give you instructions. most times they have no clue about the products.

This is a great idea! I started doing this with gift card for gas, and other things I regularly need. I will put them away in a safe, then if I need something I will get it when I don't have the money. I started doing it for fixing things up or new appliances at home.

I like your plan that you have with those cards. Load money when you have it and it is there when you need it.

@simone10 I will as soon as we get to the time we have to spend whats been saved on it. Right now we are working on having the roof fixed but it isn't going well. First we couldn't get a call back. Then we got hold of one and they said they'd come today they were a no show no call. We have another one who will be here friday and another on sunday. As soon as we get it fixed then we can finish the other repairs and remodeling we had planned.
