I think this is the first time that a large Christmas tree catches fire in Singapore. This Christmas tree is not the small one for home. It is a large one on display in Orchard Road, the shopping district in town. When I watch the video, I have to say "wow". The flame is more than 2 stories high. I just wish that I were there. It is not everyday that a Christmas tree catches fire.
A Christmas tree outside Knightsbridge mall at Orchard Road was seen burning, with flames at least two storeys high, according to photos and videos posted on social media. No one was injured.

Hard to believe that the Christmas tree will catch a fire. The MythBusters already busted it. But since there is such a news, then it may be the shortcuts of the lights lead to the fire, I guess. Such a big Christmas tree needs a lot of lights to make it beautiful. And it is hot in Singapore. So due to many reasons, there is such a fire.

@scheng1 On the contrary, I will run away fast when I see something in danger. Such as if there a group of crowded people, I will not go to see what's happening. I will just walk away quickly.

Yes, I think it is due to the decorative lights too. It does not help that it rains practically every day in the past week. I think it is really lucky that nobody gets hurt, and the fire is put out very fast. I just wish that i have a chance to witness this grand fire!

@youless That is because so many people in China, you couldn't get out by the crowded people,if you move late, maybe in Singapore it is different.

That's dangerous. I have not heard Christmas tree caught fire. I believe there were many people walking along Orchard Road. Glad to see no one was injured.

The fire starts out small. i think likely due to the small decorative lights and the fire spreads to burn the whole tree. I find it exciting though.

@scheng1 Fires are very dangerous. That should take the excitement out of it.

I am sure that if you had been there, you would have wished to be elsewhere. That is very dangerous.

Not really. There is nothing near the Christmas tree, and they have put out the fire before the fire engines arrive. It takes place outside the mall, and there is nothing near to catch fire.

they don't make lights and wires like they use to so be careful when purchasing Christmas items and buy them from a reputable store. I know you have very strict laws so guess some people would be answerable for that incident

This is the first time it happens. For most of us, we do not buy Christmas tree. Nearly every shopping center will have a large Christmas tree. This is the first time that a Christmas tree catches fire. Fortunately there are abundant of fire extinguishers everywhere, so they put out the fire before the fire engines arrive.

Nobody is hurt. It happens in Orchard Road, one of the must-visit shopping places for tourists visiting Singapore. Fortunately it is outdoor, else the whole shopping mall will be on fire.
