What Do You Know About Horses?

Until recently, horses have always been a part of my life. My Uncle Jack raised horses and I rode horses as a young person. After getting married, not so much, but we did ride occasionally. I recently published my first novel which is about thoroughbred race horses woven into a romance. I actually wrote the novel back in the 80s when I was Secretary of WV Writers, for a writing contest, which I did not win. So, recently, I came across the manuscript, updated it and got it published. My kids had a pony for a while too, and then we gave her away, when we moved from the country. The kids were all in high school except for my youngest son and weren't interested in the pony anymore. Horses are a lot of work, but then again, not that much. They need proper nutrition and shelter and grooming, but so does any other animal. There are certain things that you need to know about keeping a horse. Inoculations and veterinarian care sometimes. Certain things you need to know about what they eat and birthing foals. What do you know about horses? Some of you probably know a lot more than I do.

I know how to become friends with them. And how to establish a relationship with them "on the ground" so they don't want to toss me when I'm on them. I am good at calming a scared horse. But I leave the veterinary care to the experts.

I am for sure not an expert on horses. I did have a good guy named Mantego when I was a teenager. And now we share life with a little burro- mini donkey- named Peter. My Grandpa raised Percherons on his Illinois farm.
