Rain or Shine, Mom is Always the First To Wake Up

I woke up to a cold, rainy Saturday morning. Peeking at my garden, I saw my plants enjoying the gentle showers of rain. I am happy I need not water the plants. While my husband is still curling in bed, I started my daily morning routine. I have lots of chores that must be accomplished. When I was a child, my Mom was always the first to wake up in the morning. Even while it was still dark, she would start doing the chores quietly before waking us up for breakfast. History indeed repeats itself. Now it is my turn to be the first to wake up each morning. I can see my own Mom in me. Are you the first to wake up in the morning?

When you are retired and have no more small kids we have the choice.

We are still drinking toasts to being retired. It is just the best time.

I always used to be the first up when I had young children. Mostly I'm still the first out of bed.

A wonder how it is if we can't wake up earlier than our little kids.

@salonga If you don't wake up before the little kids they either come in and wake you up or they get into mischief.

My mom was always the one who woke up first. I used to be the first who woke up in the morning, as I woke up very early in the morning to do my work before the children got up. Now that I am pregnant, I always wake up late. Sometimes it's my son who wakes me up in the morning. Sometimes if I don't feel well in the morning, my children just play on their own while I continue to sleep. My mom has never been this lazy before, even when she was sick.

@salonga Thanks. Though sometimes I feel bad about being lazy, I am happy to see my two young children are quite independent too. I see they can take care of themselves even I am not around. I have read that, when the mother is very hardworking, the children might become lazy. When the mother is lazy, the children will be more hardworking. Though the author doesn't encourage the mothers to be lazy, it encourages the mothers not to do everything, but to give chance to the children to do work.

Your Mom is a great parent. You are pregnant so it is understandable that you have those so called lazy days.

I always wake up when I have my duty, at 4:30AM. I don't wake my son up because he puts his cell phone on alarm mode.

A health care provider wakes up early to respond to the call of duty. You have a noble job.

@salonga indeed, but even though I am early in the area, some staff nurses arrive late because they know the outgoing staff nurses have not yet finished their tasks. Endorsement should begin at 6:45AM; it starts at 7:30AM.

True dear, we can't enjoy the sleep in the cold morning being a responsible mother. Our responsibilities wake us up and asked to do the duties. We enjoyed the freedom in our childhood, not any more.

Exactly my friend, our responsibilities prompt us to get up whether we like it or not. Those who have no kids can still enjoy the luxury of staying late in bed but if you have kids and a hands on Mom, it is not possible anymore.

On the weekends, I'm usually the first one to get up. During the week, my husband has to get at 5:30. I'm usually up not much longer after that. As soon as my kids are up, so am I.

Yes, I used to be the first to wake in the morning and the last one to go to bed when my children were little.. But it's just me and my husband now so I don't have to wake up that early anymore.. Especially now that we are retired ..

Retirement gives us the liberty to sleep and rise at whatever time we so desire.

Sometimes I am first up, sometimes not. It's only me and the youngest at home most of the time. I used to get up first and wake him and his brother before he moved out. Now, sometimes I get up first but sometimes my son does. We stay with my partner on a Saturday and he likes to make sure I have a lie in. It doesn't always happen but most Sundays, I get to be the last one up!

@salonga I used to always be the first one up but since my boys are growing up and able to do more for themselves, and I have a lovely partner who appreciates how hard I work during the week and likes to look after me!

In my family we seem to take turns, some mornings my Mom will be awake first, some mornings my sister and I will be awake first. When we were children our Mom was always awake first too. :-)
