Have You Ever Been to a BIG Circus?

We took all the kids to the circus this past summer and they enjoyed it very much. It was the Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus at the coliseum in downtown Richmond, Virginia. The clowns were great. The animal acts were amazing and the kids got to get up close to some of the animals and the clowns interacted with them also. I hadn't been to a circus for years. Not since I was a little child myself, so it was fun see how much my grand children enjoyed it. We had some cotton candy, of course, and some roasted peanuts. Took lots of pictures and just really had a nice time. Recently, however, I have been following a couple sites on Instagram who are involved in rescuing circus animals who have been mistreated, particularly lions and tigers and other big cats. Some of the stories are so sad, so I have had to rethink my decision to go to the circus. I now realize that there are some animal rights groups who are actively involved in trying to get the circuses to stop featuring animals because of the way these animals have been mistreated. What do you think? Have you ever been to a big circus?

I've been the Ringling brothers circus as well. I did not realize how poorly these animals were treated but I can imagine that it's not easy to give the care and attention the animals need. I'm not defending the circus by any means. Perhaps there is a way for the animal activists to help make sure the animals are treated more fairly without taking the animals away entirely?

That would be a good solution because the kids love to see the animals at the circus, but if you would see some of the animals that have been rescued, you would be sad for them. This organization that rescues them, feeds them well and worms them and brings them back to a good state of health. It's very interesting how when they first get the animals, they quarantine them to a certain area and then slowly take them through several stages until they reach good health. The facility is very clean and the care given to the animals seems to be excellent. I applaud their efforts.

@IreneVincent It has to take alot of dedication and money to properly get the animals back to health.
