I must remember to start liking discussions and comments

As you no doubt already know, there is a feature listed below each discussion or comment among the hyperlinks for Comment or Report etcetera entitled Like. Despite being aware of this, it somehow never occurs to me to use this when responding to anything here at Mylot. I must have read many excellent discussions and comments during my time here, but always overlook this opportunity to acknowledge the quality. My carelessness in this respect was pointed out to me recently by a friend here, but I still seem to make the same mistake and overlook the link. I know that I have to make a concerted effort to use this feature more often and will certainly try hard to do so. Meanwhile I must apologise to all those who have submitted good quality discussions and comments that I have not acknowledged. I can assure you that it was carelessness and not a lack of appreciation for what you write.

I did notice that you don't seem to use that button. I've just got into the habit of doing it directly I've read the post, before I comment.

That seems very good advice because writing a comment or response is a distraction and increases the chance of forgetting.

@jaboUK and @Asylum - if I do that, people will know how slow I type judging from the minutes gap between my like and my response/comment

I'm the same way I do appreciate so much what I read here. How else could you get a different perspective without it. And yeah some things you really like. Does anyone know if like does anything. And if you like then unlike it, why I don't know then what?

As far as I know it adds nothing to the earnings ratio, but does show appreciation and respect for what others have written.

I use the "like" feature when I have ran out of things to reply back with. It allows the user to know I read it but wasn't sure where to go from there.

@ElizabethWallace I found it easier at the other site because in the early days members were paid for each like, which made it far more significant.

@Asylum I figured this out at the other site. I have to like before I write anything.

I wonder if it has any bearings on one's earnings. All the same it is a good practice to acknowledge a good topic.

I rather doubt that it affects earnings, but it is worthwhile to acknowledge what someone has written.

I do realise that interacting is far more important and the main basis of the site, but it would be an improvement if I could learn to Like on a regular basis.

I'm somewhat the other way around and have to stop myself from liking too many as I tend to read every responses and comments on discussions I like. Instead of appreciating my like, people might get annoyed by a flood of like notifications they get as a result of my action if I don't restrain myself...

@sishy7 I agree because otherwise we would be overrun with many that we did not want and the important ones would be buried.

@Asylum since i read everything before responding, i like as i go along. sometimes, i can't think of a response yet and wander elsewhere and forget. then days later, i'd stumble on it again and finally have something to say.

Once you start doing it then it becomes second nature. But I don't like a comment or a discussion unless I really do like it.

Basically the majority of the time I like is when I personally have nothing else to add to the conversation. I use this as a way to let people know I've read what they wrote and then move on. I don't use it on all comments. I'm not sure it does that much good or not.

@Asylum Yes maybe so. I never really considered this one and basically I do like super great comments but also use it when I have nothing to say to a comment that was left. I use it to let the person know I saw their comment and I appreciate them leaving it for me. fI know when I hit like this person does gain a little but not much.
