How to become popular on MyLot

Ever noticed some people are always on top no matter what they write? I’m sure you have. I decided to check this out and sort of look at how it works. I saw a few things that are interesting.
1. Some of these people who always get a lot of comments seem to write about basically the same topics and subjects.
2. I personally don’t see the people who write the popular posts interact a lot on different discussion. Basically they always have a lot of comments on their posts so they don’t need to interact with other posts.
3. The most popular posts seems to always be centered around what other people write about, especially about MyLot. Such as questions, complains or even suggestions. They seem to use this to feed off their writing.
4. I’ve seen them write about certain topics over and over again but have turned them around slightly so they are said differently.
5. Money, earning, payday seem to be very popular topics of discussions.
So here is a few clues to help you out if you want to become popular such as these people.
1. Write discussion that the topics are well liked. Read a few discussion in the hottest commented posts and see why people have to say. This will help you develop an idea of what people like to talk about.
2. Subject, title, and opening lines have a lot to do with your discussion. If you have a rotten title, your opening lines aren’t attractive, and you can’t express your ideas. Then of course you won’t make it and people won’t read your posts.
3. Before posts about food, good night, and stuff like this attracted a lot of people. Currently they don’t attract so many people at all.
4. Pick your topic or subject matter carefully. Craft a great title, write award winning opening lines, and give a lot of support.
5. Breaking your post up in smaller paragraphs helps a lot or even like this numbered listing. Long paragraphs are boring harder to read. People don’t have forever to read certain topics or subjects. Be direct, to the point, and keep your paragraphs short and sweet..

I'm sorry, but I think you are wrong to lump all the 'popular' posts together. My own are sometimes near the top of the lists and:
1. I very rarely write on the same topics or subjects, unless you count writing poems and limericks as the same. The subjects of those are all different.
2. I defy you to find many more active 'interactors' that me. You are completely wrong if you think that getting lots of responses makes people think they are absolved from commenting on others. Their traffic would soon dry up if they did that.
3. You are far more guilty of this than most people. (This post is an example).
4. You said much the same thing in '1'.
5. I never ever write about earnings and money.
So, I don't think you can generalise as to what makes posts popular. Just sayin'.
In short the only way to get to the top of those lists is to make people want to read your posts - for whatever reason.

I totally respect your opinion. I am basing this on what I have seen in the past week or two.
OK well this one is long to answer. so here goes nothing. I have been keeping track of some posts and when I do comment. I look to see if some really interact with others and who. A lot of people say it is interacting and commenting that draws attention to you. OK tell me if all the people you comment on and interact with come to do the same for you.
I think a lot of this is a matter of perspective and how one person sees it and another doesn't. I do see a lot of people here that agree with me on this one. I guess we are all wrong in how we see things the past few weeks. I am sorry if I offended you with this post but it wasn't meant to do this. It was a matter of observation and stating what I did see.

@AdrienneJenkins He is a good writer and his posts are very interesting. I am attracted to them because they are different from others and do give a nice read and some interesting points on this one.

If you never visit other people and don't comment back when they comment, you won't get many visits.

This one is very true for some people and especially the new people. But the people who were here before and are still here now it doesn't work that way. When they write it seems like a magnet they can attract everyone to their posts. I barely ever see them comment on other discussions. As for me I have a ton of discussions I comment on and I don't see that it helps all the time. At times it will help but not like people who are popular or who write basically about the same topics time and time again. I see this a lot now.

@PhredWreck I have done this and I have also scanned a lot of their discussion. It seems that a few people don't bother to answer all their responses. They like to pick and choose a few here and there to answer. I sort of just got tired of leaving comments and now just skip them by. I do notice they do have a lot of comments and responses and also discussions so basically it is sort of an even way to do all of it. I know I love to respond to people and I try again and again but when nobody wants to even acknowledge I gave them a comment I sort of just give up and stop.

@PhredWreck I guess if this one works then it is fantastic. I know that a lot of times you end up repeating yourself in comments. But I also look at it like this. There is some new people here and they are trying to understand the site. They take time to comment. So no matter if I've said it before I will do it again for them. I feel like this is polite. but on the other hand this is me and my ways and not you and your ways.

No strategy per se works here. I have noticed very ordinary posts like 'I am having a cold' has got more than 75 responses. My mantra is accept the fact that some have it all laid up for them. Full Stop

I believe it has to do with the following your develop or acquire. I am sure people visit my discussions because they have known me a long time. I guess I do not really pay attention to how popular those discussions are, I just try to post stuff people can relate to.

When I was an active member years ago, it was hit or miss with posts. Many people posted random crap and got a lot of responses. Why is beyond me. I too was guilty of posting just to post. Now, I will post things that are interesting or that will be of help to others.

You could be right on this one. However, part of the big push on the site is interacting with other members. Reading and commenting on their discussions. I see some members who seem to reach a high number of comments with little to no effort. I don't really see them commenting on other discussions. So how did these people become so interesting? I personally think it has to do with the posts they write and the topic they choose to write about.

@ElusiveButterfly This is a fantastic idea. I think helpful posts are the most useful on the site. When others see you do well they love to steal your ideas and write them up for themselves. but guess what it is legal according to all of them.

You and me both. I see this with a lot of people. I see only a handful of people who write a lot and for some reason all of their topics are on top. I feel like this is sort of unfair and especially when you leave them a comment and they don't bother to even read one of your discussions or leave a comment back. I have given up on them and pass them by now. Maybe others will start to feel this way and do the same. Then they will loose some of their popularity and hopefully wake up to realize that all of the comments they had they never once bothered to check out the person's work.
I am sure of all the topics I write on and you too there has to be at least 1 or 2 of them they can comment on. But going back for weeks on end I don't see they have taken an interest in one thing I have written or even you. So now I stop taking an interests in thier;s too.

It is nice to have support. I know people who need this and when I do happen to read their post and I can try and help I do. I am not always there when a post arrives because of time differences work and life. But if I can I try to do my best.

I think one thing that is important, is to have lots of members notice the new discussions that you have made. I'm not sure if the number of followers helps... but I think aside from starting discussions, you need to build this up first.. I think that's what I need to do.. so far I got less than 50 followers..

You know something. I have a lot of followers and guess what. Maybe 7 to 10 of them write on my work. It is timing, placement, and who sees what. I think it also has to do with one person who likes this and thinks another might so they share it. Then it starts to pick up speed.

I'm inspired to write the perfect post. It will be a slightly reworked version of someone else's popular post, but with a better title. Just to capture the foodies, I'll mention what I'm having for dinner in my post and tie it in somehow with both MyLot and Bubblews, which of course will be the subject of the popular person's post (and mine).

I do break up my posts into many paragraphs because I know how hard it is to read if its all bunched up. I write what I like to write, I write to entertain or touch someone's heart, sometimes I rant. I enjoy returning comments and I don't think I will ever be a top writer. I have limited time to write and return comment and I get the return done before writing a new post. I'm not here for the money, its just a bonus. I love the interaction between all of us.

I too love this. I try hard to keep them sort but it is hard. One time I had a post and someone said to me to write about the islands here. But then in the next line told me to keep it very short. Wow that is hard. I think longer posts have a lot to say and they can be a lot more interesting to read. But then on the other hand people say they don't have time to read them. So go figure.

@poehere I seldom check the Hot or Top discussions. I check recent, which might also be "no responses" or "new users" . I like seeing new users, but do not always respond, if their discussions do not interest me.

@GardenGerty I can see this one. I basically like going for the underdog myself. New topics are interesting and a lot of people don't bother to go there to read them. It just seems when people move up in ranking due to comments and likes the post attract twice as many comments and people responding to it.

I feel that what works good for people is what they should stick with. Routine is good on this site and it is what people are comfortable with. It is what shows results for them.
I basically just wrote this up for a lot of people asking certain questions. I know some feel like wow no matter what I write some of these top people won't ever leave me a single comment. They also know that they comment on their posts but this person refuses to notice them.
Ever have that feeling on here? I know I have recently had that feeling.

You are welcome. I just started to notice a major pattern over the last few weeks and how certain people are always on top. I also started to pay closer attention to what they have written. Then I noticed a pattern in this one. I decided why not let others in on this so maybe they can gain a little popularity and get to the top pages now and then. I think everyone should have a chance to have a post that gains a lot of popularity because it make this person feel good. It makes them feel that people like what they have said. I feel that is important on this site.

great. And so very correct.
I loved your observation on #3 of your suggestions/clues - Before posts about food, good night, and stuff like this attracted a lot of people. Currently they don’t attract so many people at all.
I remember that food had many takers on earlier mylot. Even Health - topics about nutritious value of food, fruits - and I do recall at least two Mylotters had excelled with these things - Binthu and Professor. These discussions from them were awesome in terms of information.
Oh wait. I think you should also add up - Respond to everyone who takes time to comment on your discussion - that helps in the long run

@poehere The only problem that I find with the food posts is that - if they are a recipe, there is nothing much in terms of discussion that can be happening on them. The ones with informative value - for instance - the health benefits of Banana - can be discussed but not for long as there is nothing much to discuss - either you have an experience to share or agree with what the OP is stating. So definitely not great if you want to have discussions. Can be good for people who want to be known as people with a Taste.

Yes you are so right on this one. The more you interact on other post the more people want to interact on your posts.
The reason I did mention food and stuff like this was when I came here 2 months ago they were very popular posts. Now I see they aren't as popular as before but some people still like to post them.

Dear,
Learning how we can improve is always a good thing.
Do people on this site seem to write harshly? I’m not sure if that is a correct word to use but am willing to retract it. Maybe, what I mean is members can interact with a lack of a certain social grace and its a little rough around the edges? Sometimes it is a bit like an Irish temper. Judge not or be judged. Point a finger at someone and you will find you have three of you own fingers pointed back at yourself.
Popular? It’s a machine for crying out loud! Do I care about the difference between comments and replies? No! The popular list is generated by the total number of likes by members for only God knows what reason. Whatever!
Do appreciate what you said about getting to know other writers to some degree even though we don’t see each other face to face their thoughts and feelings can be read in the text. But no way, am I listening intently to a computer list generator.
So! Solution for me on the other uncertainty you have talked about previously that of wasting our precious time, I will focus on instead. I want to write more on my own blog and a little less on this log into the New Year. This will help me be happier. As for interaction. So what if I don’t pay attention to any of the stupid numbers (any of them) and just focus on one topic that I want to write about and interact with others on a topical basis anywhere on the site. If indeed, I try this writing experiment and focus on my writing and nothing much else, I will let you know how it works out.
Who knows I just might like using myLot a different way than I have in the past.
your friend

@Bluedoll This sounds like a good idea. I guess a lot of people worry so much about numbers. It is because the numbers are associated with their bank. Here people are looking for topics that they can either comment on or get people to comment on. This is sot of a way to help them out. I am glad you left this comment it is a very interesting point of view and I like it.

Thank you and happy you liked this. I just saw a pattern forming and decided to write about it. Some feel I am right and others don't. But that is what makes a discussion worth the time to write it. To see what everyone thinks and feels.

@sillvermist Those who get many responses and interactions have brought with them a huge group who are ready and waiting to interact with each other. For them it is not the quality of a post but who has posted matters. Sad but true.As usual no doubt there are exceptions.
A post on a similar topic by someone else who is not in that group will get nothing.

Glad I am not the only one. I think a lot of it has to do with how long they are on the site. It seems no matter what they write it will attract people. I almost thought it was me until I started to keep tabs on comments I make. It seems more of my comments or almost all of them go unnoticed on some of these posts. They say to interact but you know what no matter how many times you interact with the same people they will never once come to you discussion and interact with you.
Now I look at this and just pass them by. I feel why not. They have so many other comments they like to interact with they don't need mine too. I got tired of always feeding into this one and I got no reward for what I did. So now I would rather spend my time with people who care.

I feel like this should be the way. There is so much out there to write about and so many people here on the site. We should be able to attract a few people to our posts. But it seems the only time this one really happens is when you get up in the ranking on the hot topic page where everyone goes to see who has the most interesting and hottest posts that people comment on. Then after they notice them they make comments on them too. I personally don't go to these pages because I feel like they are sort of unfair. I would rather go to recent and check this page out.
