I Have A Sad Face Tonight

I've been gone most of the day. Spent some time at a nursing home today reading Bible stories to some of the residents. Had lunch with my daughter at Olive Garden and attended a Christian meeting this morning.
So, I haven't been on MyLot much at all today. Normally, I have a lot of FREE time and I will have more this coming week, and I do realize that most people on here are much busier than I am, going to work, and to school and raising a family, none of which I have to do anymore.
But, I was hoping that there would be more interaction. I am gathering information right now about other places in the U.S and other countries; information that I may be able to use in my next novel. I got my first novel published a few months ago.
I want to make some friends on here that will tell me about where they live. I don't expect people to give out personal information, just general information about some interesting happenings or places. Each state or country has fascinating things that only those who live there know about, generally speaking.
For instance, here where I live, Pocahontas also lived. Do you know how young she was when she died? Or where she died? She may have walked on the very ground that my house sits on. Her real name was Matoaca and that's the name of the area where I live here in Virginia.
What is something unusual or interesting about the area where you live?

I live in Canada. We have a mountain with an artificial lake on top of the mountain right in the middle of the city and in the winter it freezes and one can skate on it. Lovely place to go at night and skate and there are many people there skating, walking or skiing in the winter.

Oh wow! Where is this lake, exactly? By artificial, do you mean man-made? What's the name of the lake? What's the name of the city or mountain? That would definitely be something to see and to write about. Tell us more.

@IreneVincent It is in Montreal and the name of the mountain is Mount Royal and the lake is called Beaver Lake. I should check the history and see if it was a natural lake and then just fixed up by man. If you ever visit, let me know and I will be your guide. I work cheap.
In Montreal, we have it all. It is called the Paris of North America.

Okay, we have just moved. This community gets its water supply from a spring that has never run dry. It has been using it since the 1800's. I think 1847. It has a unique water tower that is also original. There is a Harvey House museum here. The Harvey House offered meals and accommodations to train travelers.

Oh wow! What's a Harvey House? And where is it? I will have to look that one up. Tell us all about it. Oh, if you get water from a spring, I'll bet it is some good tasting water. I have Spring water delivered to my house every two weeks. In fact, he will be coming with my water tomorrow. The water from your spring that has never run dry comes from the underground aquifer that God put into place when HE created the Earth. You can read about that in the Bible too.
Tell me what's so unique about the water tower.

Any place that is peaceful, is a good place to be. What are some of the lively things in your area. I've heard of Karachi, Pakistan but know very little about it. What do you do for fun?

Oh, I enjoyed that part of my day, except for the fact that it makes me sad to see some of the people in the nursing homes that are unable to care for themselves anymore.
And I was sad when I got home and checked my posts and there wasn't much going on here on MyLot. It seemed like a slow day and I can understand that for a Sunday. I had a lot going on and I suppose others did too so the site was neglected, I think. Hopefully, it will start livening up this week.

@Gr8bit Thank you so much for all that information. I will find your town on the map. It's what I love to do. Find out about places that I probably will never be able to visit. As a writer, I'm always looking for an interesting setting for my next novel.
You mentioned "mining" but didn't say what was mined? I was born at home, in the "heart of the bituminous coalfields" of West Virginia, USA. in a little coal mining town named Gypsy. You probably won't be able to find that on a map. Hah!
That's also very interesting about Lord Mountbatten commanding a ship built there. Isn't he the one that...maybe I should look that up first, because I'm not sure of what happened to him.

@IreneVincent I'd be sad too to see people there BUT be happy you brought light into their life... On to where I live, I live on the North East coast of England about an hours ride from Scotland and about 8 hrs from London, obviously living on the coast we have beaches, most of which are clean :-) The town we live in is Hebburn, a nice place to live without the hustle and bustle of city life, we have a river about two minutes away which is the river Tyne which was, in the past, the biggest ship building port for the Royal Navy making ships such as HMS Kelly which was commanded by Lord Mountbatten in the 1930s, until the 1970s it was also a mining town, with up to 3 mines dating back to 1792. Recently the council in their infinite wisdom have built a hub for people to meet, with an indoor swimming pool, cafe and fitness class etc as part of a rejuvenation project but in reality the town is a ghost of it's former glory without the big industry. The area would need massive REAL investment but being so far from London we know it is not going to happen. This is the reality across parts of Britain
