Do you bake special breads for Christmas?
Every year I bake a dill bread to serve with the smoked salmon and sour cream.
It is an old recipe that I found in a Good Housekeeping magazine about 30 years ago.
You start with the dough for the regular bread for toasts, then you add melted butter, chopped dill and chives.
The smell of the bread while it's baking is delicious, all my guests have loved it.
Here is a photo of the loaf of bread that I made yesterday.
I prefer to test the recipes that I do not make often, I do not want to fail the day of Christmas.

Hm... that looks delicious! I'd love to have the actual recipe, but it sounds like that one could be protected under copyright laws.
I just got back from the morning trip to the grocery store. They had a nice assortment of produce in the reduced section today, and I got a big bag of zucchini for under $1. I'm going to use it to make zucchini bread either today or tomorrow. The recipe is one of the few I've gotten from my mother that I still make, so it's probably the closest thing to a traditional Christmas bread we have.
She also had a banana bread recipe that she made every year, but I use one I found online these days. I usually make muffins instead of loaves simply because the kids prefer them.
The recipe calls for sliced bananas, but I like it better when they're mashed.
Sour cream guarantees a moist and tender loaf. And bananas are sliced instead of mashed in this recipe, giving a concentrated banana taste in every bite.

@LadyDuck I suspect I'd find it hard not to break chunks off and eat them on the spot

That's such a perfect looking bread! Do you bake it in the oven? I used to bake breads during my college years, but haven't lately - perhaps I should do that! Oh, I keep forgetting to mention to you that I did do those apple roses that you posted a while back - it was incredibly easy and they came out so nice! It was a test run and the family loved them . . . so maybe I'll do some to take to family for gatherings!

We experiment making different breads throughout the year. When I make a holiday meal I have enough to worry about w/o making bread. Now that dill bread sounds good!

@AbbyGreenhill Yes, Roman Catholics should not eat meat the day before Christmas. When I was a kid my family seriously respected the rules, my husband is not Roman Catholic, but he loves smoked salmon, so why not to respect.

Your bread looks delicious! No, I don´t think that I cook any special food for Christmas and I have never done it. When everyone came to my house for Christmas, I usually made a huge piece of roast beef and a roast chicken for the kids if they did not like meat.
Our attention was centered on the Christmas tree and the presents.

Ah! That looks yummy. Making breads on normal occasions is great, making them on some festive days will make us to feel double great. As a beginner to cooking & baking, I exercise extra caution during festivals, as that will set our mood for the entire day.
I need a parcel of this, please! :D
Hope you enjoyed baking and hope you have a enjoyable festival & holidays.
Merry Christmas! :-)
