It Is Christmas Without Shopping for Me

I have resolved not to go shopping this whole Christmas season. I hate crowded shops and traffic mess. They only prove that too much commercialism has ruined the true essence of Christmas. It is enough for me to decorate my house for the season and then prepare good food for the whole family on Christmas Eve. I am making myself busy with church caroling. It is sweet and very meaningful because we sing the story of Jesus from house to house of church members who in turn prepare food for the whole carolers to enjoy amid clean fun and laughter.

Good that online shopping is working well for you. I am not into it because I would want to touch and see the products personally before buying.

@salonga There are enough images and detailed descriptions I get to see and read. Most of the time they have been ok but sometimes I need to return and get something different. The joy of not stepping out is the main attraction.

@allknowing It s more convenient to shop while just sitting in the comfort of your home but I really am always not satisfied because in several instances I found the images better than the real goods delivered to me.

I don't really enjoy the shopping but it is a necessary evil this time of year, for me at least.

It has become a necessary evil with me for so many years as well but this time around I will celebrate without this.

EVIL...@salonga and @BellleStarr...you seem quite certain about this...I suppose that you will say that the 'devil' is in the details thought! Love and be loved and )then forget about such trial pursuits (absolutely no pun(s) were intended, nor harmed)!

I am not sure how the Christmas tradition is, I have heard many about Christmas shopping and gifts giving, but I always think having a Christmas tree and decorations at home, and have a nice meal with family is great! And caroling as well.

@salonga I have read that this is the season of giving and loving, so this is what we should teach our children, not just about receiving gifts.

If I had my choice, I would do all of my shopping online like I always do. But this year money is a little tight and we have to wait until my brother's next payday to finish and will be out in all the crowds.

@salonga That's one thing we don't do. We don't over extend ourselves and don't use credit cards.

Decorating your home and preparing a good meal for Christmas eve is a wonderful way to celebrate, my family and I will do the same, there might be small gifts of chocolates and so, but Christmas is not about just gifts, which many forget.

Christmas is basically a commercial holiday now. The merchants are the ones who are cheery. I agree that it is possible to have a deep and meaningful day without shopping.

@ataboy You have a good point. It is just up to us to control our expenses of course. The businessmen will sell for as long as we buy.

Well so are we when they employ us, @salonga, so don't look to harshly on a profitable period for businessmen! If not for them we would probably still be having to hunt for our own food! No?

Oh that is so nice because you won't be spending much for shopping anymore . Besides , you have the spirit of Christmas already by joining your church's caroling . That's more than enough . If i can have my way , there won't be shopping for me too , since i will just give our daughter , money for her shopping as gift. . But then , i shopped for new blouse for the Christmas party and still would buy for my 5 nieces and grandchildren . Hay naku , i hope i won't be shopping too for CHristmas.

It is a good decision to give money to your daughter. Let her buy whatever she wants. I also am giving money to my godchildren. Their parents will be happier for sure.

@salonga I always do that now , since when my daughter didn't like the style of the dress i gave her . Her taste is something not in conformity with my taste that' why . So , she's happy that i just give her money . And yes, the parents of your godchildren will be happier is it is money you give them too.

I have shopped a bit online.. need to do a bit more today.. But I love the other things related to Christmas.. I hate shopping as it is. Caroling for the sick and the uncared for and bringing gifts to them is my most preferred activity of the season.

“Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art.... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things which give value to survival.

@anamika I respect your opinion but I don't really believe the same. True friendship is to me a valuable thing because they add more meaning to my life. True friendship is not all about material things, it is something that flows from the heart and stays whether you have nothing material to give.

Perhaps you should reevaluate your "friendships", goodluck! "friendship may not be "NECESSARY" but neither is survival! Altruism suggests that your statement is reversed in many cases! Are would never take a bullet or psychological pain on my behalf...a true friend very well may! But TRUE friends are admittedly few and far between...
