Making salad together with the children

We just had our lunch today, very simple lunch - potato and egg salad.
It's very easy for me to prepare, I just boiled the potatoes and eggs. My son even wrote down how many potatoes and eggs each of us want, and told me the total amount to boil. (He has been very interested in Math and counting.)
After the potatoes and eggs are cooked and cooled, we just sat down around the table together. We distributed the potatoes and eggs, peel off the skins and shells, cut them into smaller pieces and mix with mayonnaise.
I did help the children a little when they needed my help, but it's really fun to prepare a meal together. It's always nice to see the children working and having fun at the same time.
Do you like to eat salad? What do you have for lunch today?

haha, your son is so funny!
I think you should get different potatoes and different sizes of the potatoes to challenge him.
I bet he will ask you what kind of potato you want and what size.
I bet he will get frustrated when everyone wants the same kind, and there is no enough of that kind.

He has been doing that a lot lately. We even need to "pay" for our food at home. When I prepared a meal for them, he'd ask how much for the meal. Sometimes the little sister might not take egg, so hers should be charged less expensive, like how we are charged for "economic rice". For me, I always just simply say a full amount, but for him, he would calculate more "fairly".
For this salad meal, he said they do not need to pay me, as they are preparing it together. He is not a calculative person, but he just likes to count.
He won't get frustrated, as he will just tell that kind of potatoes have been ordered, so the other person would have to order the other kind.
Now I am quite enough for him to count, wait until he gets older a bit then only add more challenges to him. Sometimes I wish I do not need to answer his counting questions all the time.

Thanks.
I think most Chinese won't take salad as lunch, but more prefer rice with some dishes. If my parents or parents-in-law know we are not having rice or noodles for lunch, but just salad, they would think I don't take care of my children well.

I guess many Asians thinks we have to eat rice in order to be healthy. My mom and mother-in-law always complains about this as well, as my children don't eat rice everyday.
Do you eat curry everyday? I love Indian curry, it's really delicious!! I hope I can have some now......

I always make this for snack or when we want to have light food for dinner, as it's easy to prepare.
I guess if you add some salt or pepper, it'd make the salad taste nicer. But I always try to keep it as simple as possible for my children, so I just add mayonnaise only.

That sounds like fun, preparing lunch with your kids! Very cute how your son loves to count. For lunch, I had a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. (Ate out)

Your lunch sounds delicious. I'd like to have some tomato soup too.
It's always fun to work together with the children. This is one of the reasons I enjoy being a stay-at-home mom so much. My son always likes to count since he was quite young. I guess I really have to start teaching him Math officially as he is turning 7 soon.
