Sent text message to wrong person

I was having lunch with a friend when my sister sent me a text message. I ignored it until I was home and replied to her message. Once sent, I realized it went to the friend I was just with instead. I panicked a bit because I knew I mentioned that friend’s name in the message to my sister. I said to her (among other things) that I was sorry I didn’t reply earlier because I was with ‘y’ (my friend’s name). Good thing I didn’t say anything bad about my friend to my sister. It’s bad enough now that my friend saw my personal messages to my sister about some family affairs. But it would have been more disastrous if the message was unintentionally sent to a wrong number yet containing negative remarks or something about the unintended recipient. Have you done something similar before?

I try to never put anything negative in writing about ANYbody. I don't think I could cope with the consequences.

Yeah, it was enough to make me felt awkward as I apologized to my friend... I wouldn't know what to do if there was anything negative in the message I mistakenly sent to her.

It's better to keep your negative thoughts to yourself. That's what I was saying about Facebook and the things that persons broadcast on there for the whole world to see and read. It's crazy!

I once wanted to call one of my second cousins who had four brothers with similar names, and I called the wrong person's home phone then asked for the guy I wanted, and luckily, he was in this very brother's home and I found him successfully.

He he... you lucked out on that one... If you called the right home number, you would not find him and you'll probably have to call the other number anyway if you wanted to find the right person straight away then.

I have done more horrible stuff. And I am sure reading about it yours will never be any issue. I had sent out a love text to my boss instead of my then girlfriend (now my wife). And the boss was an aged lady. I realized only when she called back and asked what do you do at work!!! And to complicate matters when my wife (then girlfriend) had called up, I was like why havent you replied to my SMS. That incident had a drastic effect on the rules. Since that day, no employee was allowed cell phones during work hours. Most of the colleagues did not know until I left the job about who was responsible for that rule. Surely they would have me killed if they knew before

@sishy7 It was good that you did not speak ill of your friend on the SMS. Such mistakes can make irreparable damages. I have learned it is safer to call up rather than text. The past few months I have been using Whatsapp on my android, but as there are only 4-5 friends, it seems to be easier. But still, I prefer to speak rather than text.

You're right, my situation was nothing compared to that one... My boss name is so similar to one of my sons and sometimes when my son called me I thought it was my boss whose name showed up on my screen... I always double check when I send messages to my son also as I certainly don't want to have them sent to my boss inadvertently...

Uh oh, they must have been confused why you gave them all the advice while your friend who requested it wondered why you haven't given it to her/him.

If I am meeting up with friends we text each other 'I"m here" or "I'll be there in five" etc, so it could very well happen to me yet. It, however, has not yet happened that I text the wrong person. I can imagine your embarrassment over the friend knowing some family affairs you didn't want known.

Yes, the friend was the last person I text before I tried to reply to my sister. I guess I mis-touched my contact list and the last number used showed up or something. Sometimes there's a bit of 'delay' with my touch screen mobile - and when I thought I've touched an item, it actually was still loading and I ended up touching a different item.

There have been a couple of occasions that I have sent text messages to a group of people and inadvertently including someone else, but none that really constituted a problem.

I'm afraid of that - so I check and double and triple check before I hit send. I often get those group messages, and sometimes I only want to text to one particular person - so I gotta make sure of it.

@sishy7 Hubby is having that problem - but he actually presses the right contact and it ends up being someone else (I've witnessed this several times - the wrong contact name isn't anywhere near the right one). His phone is seriously messed up!

@UmiNoor Yes, luckily the friend is more of a long time family friend so my sister and her know each other. In fact, my friend's parents have known our parents from way back when we were just kids.

I'm sure your friend was understanding and yes, good thing you didn't say anything embarrassing about him. As for me? No, but my husband has. I am very careful to know where my text is going, I even review it for bad grammar before sending...unless I am busy... My first time I wrote the word in a text was to my husband (If only I had kept that, it was too funny). My text was supposed to say "Do you know what we need to put into the pumpkin stew?" but when I got a reply back about with ingredients similar to whiskey, I saw that I had really send this text: "Do you know what we need to put into the pumpkin still" I will have to see if he kept that message, I laugh so hard when I realized my mistake.

@sishy7 I know, I should ask my husband if he still has that text so I can take a picture of the exact words..It was pretty funny, because I was helping my daughter at her shop and was focused on that job when I received his text that made no sense...until I read what I sent him.

@sishy7 Yes, hon, I sure did! My daughter and I spent the day playing online. We purposely didn't invite anyone else over for dinner or anything else and so it was just the two of us. We both played online doing what we do online. I was here on myLot and she played several new kids games and wrote about them. The she and a friend tried out an Indian game (that isn't going to sell many copies, in my opinion) about making a baby and keeping it alive... unfortunately, she and her friend decided it was more fun to see how many ways they could contrive to kill the baby, instead. They took a plethora of gross screenshots of the various ways they found to kill the baby and the reactions of the authorities when they were discovered. Yes, I do know how this sounds, hon! But, while we were in our separate rooms playing our separate games we were also sending cascades of emails back and forth... She grossed me out several times with the ways they found to kill baby and I sent her screenshots of several of the discussions I was participating in ... I could here her screeching with laughter several times and twice, she came running in to check to see who wrote what I had just sent her. Yes, I had a great holiday with my child. How did you and your family do?
