My very first competition

Philippines

Every year, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) conducts a dance competition all over the Philippines. We, the FEU Diliman Crew, were one of the competitors in that said event. It is a privilege that out of hundreds of groups that wanted to join the competition, our group was accepted and picked to be one of the competitors. The thought of being in a national competition and competing with more than fifty groups made me anxious. While we were on our way to Pampanga, where the competition will be held, I was so down because we heard that we will compete with lots of great dancers. I kept on thinking and saying to myself that "I can't do it. I can't dance in front of many people and besides, we are not that good enough. We won't win in this competition." But looking back to where we started, from our very first training to the last training we had before the competition, I know that we improved as a group and an individual and I am having a hope that we can do this and we can do better. There are days that we don't have time for our family, we don't have time for other things, we sometimes don't have time to do our homework or projects because all we did was to go to school and train for the big competition. Because of those sacrifices we made, those bruises we gained and all those hard times that we have been through, we are eager to win and be victorious. Though we didn't win, the experiences we had are irreplaceable. We know that this is not yet the end and this is only just the beginning for us. We will strive hard and we will do better on our next competition. This is the very first competition that I have joined and it taught me about many new things. I learned that every hard work will lead to victory, all those pain and sacrifices will be worth it and everything has a purpose. In this competition, I came to know the essence of just do your best, enjoy while dancing and have fun on stage. It doesn't matter if you win or lose. What really matters is that you gave everything you could give and you enjoyed what you did.
