Ways to Save Around The House We all have to be careful with the pennies these days and I have compiled a list of things which might be useful: When cooking a casserole cook enough for two days, cool leave in fridge for the day after. Try to buy bog of’s in the supermarket only if you use it. Tip shampoo bottle upside down, there are normally two or more shampoos in the bottom. Lump the leftover bits of hand soap together for hand washing. Buy a cheap washing powder with a better box and mix it up Turn the lights out as you leave the room Turn the television's off as you leave the room. Tuck your curtains behind the radiators to keep the heat in the room. Put a curtain up at a drafty door and save on your heating bills Just a few ideas , maybe you could offer a few more ideas on how to save money.

You have some good ideas here. I put aluminium foil behind my radiators to reflect the heat back into the room.

Very good tips..In India many housewives in the southern parts take a handful of rice from the days quota of rice and store it another container. This has dual advantage - The saved rice can be used for 3 -4 more days and the entire family eats less, thereby remaining fit !

Walking more would benefit our health and save some money too..The only problem is that here in India , in all the major cities it is impossible to walk on the roads because the footpaths have shrunk and there are people or sellers everywhere..

@sugartoes Bulk buying is a good idea then you always have food in and it stops the need to keep going to the shops. I always spend more than I should so cut down the trips and save money.

Why would you worry about tucking the curtains behind the rads. They won't catch fire and you will keep the warmth in the room instead of heating the window.

We have a lot of gizmos that are connected to our TV. We have hard-drives, media player, sat box, digital TV box etc which all have remote controls. When we use the remote to switch off they go to standby. So we have them all connected via one power switch. When we are not watching the TV we switch off the power switch that switches them all off. This means none of them are using any power. Before when we switched off using the remote they continued using power in the standby mode. It made quite a difference to our electric bill.

We tried doing that for a while, but then we had to reset everything like the date etc. Did you find that? I'd like to do it if it would save money.

Your cheap washing powder might be okay mixed with a better brand if you are not allergic to the cheap washing powder but I can only use certain types or I break out. The other ideas are great though.

I normally stock up while it is cheap as well. Using the other ideas will certainly make things last longer. Also cooking a lot then freezing , then microwave warm that way you don't keep using the cooker.

I add in a bit of water into the shampoo bottle. It will dilute the shampoo, but I can still use for a couple of days. The same goes to facial wash, laundry detergent, and conditioner. Adding a bit of water really can let us use the products to the full.

I use this principle while using toothpaste. When it almost gets complete I cut the bottom of the tube and then slit it open with a scissor. There will still be a lot of paste which comes for 2 more days.

You've thought of some good ones. In reference to shampoo I usually add a tablespoon of water to the almost empty bottle to keep it from becoming pasty on the bottom. Also, rinsing your hair with a 50/50 solution of baking soda and water between shampoos will reduce the number of times you have to wash with shampoo.

I normally tip my bottle upside down but adding a drop of water is a better idea. I will try that 50/50 with the baking soda , thanks for the tip.

i also buy two brands of laundry detergent and mix them up. i also buy the two cheapest variants of rice. any tubes are cut up - toothpaste, lotion, facial wash, shampoo, conditioner. we handwash dishes and dilute dishwashing liquid and add lime rinds (calamansi).

Those are some great tips, I always make enough food, so that I can freeze it, and then get another meal out of it. I also keep bottles and buy refills, of washing liquid and so.
