Oopsi - I peeled my finger :(

I was peeling a Butternut Squash yesterday to make some squash and carrot mash when I accidentily peeled my finger. It wasn't my brightest moment and probably more prove that I can't cook. There was actually a thick piece of skin on the counter :( I didn't have any plasters so I had to wrap it up in a bandage, it was bleeding so much I had to change the first bandage. This was yesterday and it has scabbed over now but I am sure it is going to scar :( That will teach me not to peel towards my hands, but Butternut Squash is such a pain to peel

I never peel them, I cut then in half, get rid of the seeds, stick them in the oven and when soft, scoop the meat of the squash skin and do what you want with it. No Peeling!!!

That sounds like a much more sensible option, maybe next time I get one it won't sit on my veg rack for so long now. I will let you know if I give it a go x

Ouch! I often cut my fingers and they are a road of cooking scars :) feel better soon and dont worry about a small scar.

Peel away from your fingers. I hope it heals completely with no scar.

@shellyjaneo I usually do not peel or cut my fingers, but I burn them placing and removing items from the oven . I know I should use the special mitts, but I am always in a hurry.

We call them butternut pumpkin here. They are awful to peel but not as hard as other pumpkin, at least in my opinion.

Butternut Pumpkin that would just confuse me lol. It is funny how things are called different things in different counties (that all speak English). I wouldn't even try a normal pumpkin, I've never had one x
