Do You Speak More Than One Language Fluently?

United States

I know bits and pieces of many different languages, but do not speak any of them fluently. I have been wanting to take some classes to learn to speak Spanish, but have not done so. What I have done is to try to learn at least some GREETINGS in other languages and how to say THANK YOU. I can count to ten in 7 different languages and I am currently learning to do that in Chinese, along with a couple greetings. I have a great nephew who is married to a Chinese woman and he speaks fluent Chinese. I will be seeing them when I go to North Carolina in a few days. In fact, I will be going to their anniversary party while I'm there, so I need to practice. I'm looking forward to seeing them again.

The "Romance" languages are very similar. Italian, French, Portuguese and Spanish. I have a friend who speaks Spanish and English but she also understands Italian. I wish I knew them all.

That would be so wonderful to be able to read the Bible in those original languages. Are you a Bible reader?

@IreneVincent yes, and for most of my life I've had the Bible in it's original languages with no translation.

I speak some Spanish, but not fluently. I keep working on it sporadically, because I'd like to get better. But it's tough.

You sound like me. I keep trying to learn Spanish on my own, but I think I really need to take some classes. It's the verbs that puzzle me. I have a fairly good vocabulary in Spanish but I never get the sentence structure of the verbs right, unless I just learn complete sentences from a book and memorize them.
