Neutering Your Pet Peeves!

Do you have any pet peeves? If you answer "No!"....I know you're fibbing (which is marginally better than accusing you of lying!) So what are they? Do tell! And have you ever managed to snip any of them off...you know change you're ways? It's not easy...It is a whole lot easier to play the game of abandoning them on the surface! But we can see the tension in your smile when you say..."No Hun, it doesn't bother me!" So spill it! We/I all want to hear it!

One of my pet peeves is when people waste food-we have literally been starving before so seeing that gets under my skin a little bit. I am always on top of my kids to only take what they are going to eat.

@ataboy You are so sweet but I have to tell you I'm not actually perfect. I do have plenty of flaws, however I have good intentions always. My inner flaws are quite annoying to most such as never feeling like I'm good enough for others, not being very confident in myself at all, putting myself down at times and I am terrified to drive! I don't take your compliments in a creepy context at all. I don't get a ton of compliments so when I do they are so appreciated! Lol, see I would annoy you if you bought me food because I would so try to eat every bite! My "no wasting" rule gets the best of me at times.

I am going to say the same. I hate it when people throw good food away just to make room in the fridge or cupboards :(

OMG! I take it all back then! LOL! And I bet you have a real hard time getting complements, @LovingMyBabies! I don't think you have ANYTHING to worry about in the world! Trust me! You may think differently, but we just need to push a few of those neural synapses in the right directions! I'm glad you understand I'm not some freak-show! Now, that said, trust me when I say...Never believe anyone EVER AGAIN that says the things I said about NOT being a stalker....because they usually are the most clever, sneaky stalkers! But that's just from this moment forward! You got lucky to find the one that's not here OL! I'm actually pretty serious! LOL! And as to your eating comment...Eat it later that night! Eat it the next day! Give it to a homeless person or something! Don't rupture your stomach to please someone that's spending good money to please you! It's a Lose-Lose situation if you do!

Of course I have pet peeves, more than one, but something I cannot stand are people who use their smartphones while eating with the family. This is the only moment when family can exchange their ideas and discuss about their day, people should turn off those stupid things.

Yup, @LadyDuck! I pretty much have "gone dark" on the whole smartphone thing! you won't hear any tunes emanating from my body! I'm all about technology and stuff, but I just can't stand the things! And if you knew what "generation" I am from, I think you would be quite surprised! I DO own several, even one that is still fully-activated, but the batteries and sims have been removed and they sit in my drawer...untouched! Yes it is possible to do! I swear, I'm living proof!

I don't think that most of them actually DO, @celticeagle, and/or they're to narcissistic to see it! Which takes us back to the reply made by @Bluedoll! But yeah...I REALLY cant 'stands' them either! @ataboy That science talk was commemorative. For the record I took a break on that one but thanks for the reminder. I want to do some reading on the subject but if I don't get to it like I should get to it, will go back and rehash that one without any research. Your last comment was very good. Yes I was thinking of rule makers actually and yes that is something that is not allowed. Wait wait. It is allowed because the rule makers are not admin. Still it is an excellent choice to make a rule specifically for that peeve. Okay disallowed.

The rule I made up was that you're not allowed to say that one @Bluedoll! LOL! J/K! Yeah, give someone a uniform and they often get some type of adrenaline rush! Not everyone obviously, but it has been studied! (Did I hear a sound in your head that almost sounded like it said - No more science talk "A Guy", please!) LOL!

Young people smoking. They have the info some older ones did not, yet they started that habit-sad. People ignoring the hungry. People who harm animals or children. People mocking the disabled or elderly. Guess I could go on all day!

See, @PatZAnthony, you and @LovingMyBabies have mentioned actual things that bother you that SHOULD bother you! There's no neutering, so to speak, necessary! It's like phobias....Some people are scared of clowns or roaches! They both tend to do little damage to people! Someone that fears people are after them when they are fugitives or stole from a lone shark....they have a pretty reasonable reason to be checking their windows! So in essence, I totally agree! Although, I personally tend to think about kids that smoke a little bit differently. I realize they are addicted and so on and so forth...but I'm addicted to sleeping in all day and never doing anything ever. Still I drag myself out of bed and deal with it every day. I'm an addict for life I suppose! but I totally agree with every other word you said (scratch that...'typed') though!

I never had the luxury of having someone throw garbage on my car window yet, Nanette! Unless you're speaking about the occasional brochure! Yeah, I though I was the only one that put my cart back into the "cart thingy" in the parking lot or else give it to someone headed for the door to use! We only have space for 47 pet-peeves per member, so you're going to have to make some sacrifices here now! So, my question to you is this - are you willing to make that sacrifice?!

My first pet peeve is when someone smokes near me. Either I will confront the person and would tell on his face to leave me alone or when I could control myself, I will just leave and let him die smoking for all I care.

People who are consistently late by more than 20 minutes. Everyone is late at one time or another due to circumstances beyond their control, but someone who is always late. I think it's a pet peeve of mine because of embarrassment - that used to be me, back in my early 20's. It makes me look back and cringe at how inconsiderate I was!

I agree, @mawhite! I'm actually never late with the exception of a disaster that I can't work a way around, no matter how hard I try. Well, for most things (work, meeting someone, appointments, etc) I was late for a Calculus Exam in collage, I apparently had the wrong time written down...2 hours late to a three hour exam! The professor made it very clear that I was two hours late and how very rude it was in a very loud announcement to me across the otherwise completely silent classroom! I approached him and apologized pointing out my error, and he said that I would be given no additional time! I looked at him kind of strangely and pretty much said I didn't expect you to, may I please have my exam? I was doing rather well at the time, but those are odds that are very much stacked against almost anyone I think! Yep, I finished about a minute or two before the time was called. I managed to be the first one done too, and I hand him the exam with a smile. I won't mention what I got, because it's already sounding like I'm building up to a "perfect" story, but I'm certain that nobody higher than I did! And the deck was seriously stacked! I was late to work once when my car wouldn't start. Got a neighbor to drive me and was

Thanks, @mawhite, I was at the time too! But my ramblings just start coming out as I write sometimes, so I didn't mean to get off onto a story about me! And then when I really try to get down to writing something I can't write a word. The universe is said to have a sense of irony, and I feel it all the time shining down on me! But, I do appreciate your kind complement!

Most of my pet peeves are related to music. I can't stand people who say they're "huge fans" of people -- then can't spell their names correctly (e.g., "I love Dwight Yokum" [it's Yoakam) or "George Straight [it's Strait] is my favorite" or "Lynard Skynerd [Lynyrd Skynyrd]rules!").

LOL! I hear you! I'm a musician myself. You won't believe this, but I purposely created one of my band's names so that it would be nearly impossible for people to remember or spell! LOL! I will only say this, it is/was the most successful band I have been in to this day! (Vagrant) I just find that really ironic that you mentioned that! Did someone put you up to that? That's too funny! I really don't want to mention my band's name here, because it was a username that I presently don't want to make a connection to on other sites. Totally separate question...Do you know 'E' That's a pretty hard one to mistake. I was in a band named "Flo" and then when we ran across another pretty successful band named "Flo" in CA, we changed the name to Lo, and our next album was titled "Drop the F"! Kind of funny I think! But yeah, If you like someone, you should probably know how to spell their name or band name AT LEAST! Geez!

@ataboy -- No, I promise, nobody "put me up to it." I'm worse than a grammar nazi when I see someone claiming to be a "huge Eagles fan" misspelling Timothy Schmit's last name as "Schmidt." If you're a casual music listener (one of those "average people" who spends less than $17 a year on music), then okay, I get it, you don't like music enough to care. However, if you claim you are someone's "number one fan," spell their dang name right!

@ataboy Lol I used to do that to my mom I would take the car and tell her I'm just going to the store. I would go and run into someone at the store and I would offer them a ride then it would turn into me hanging out for a few minutes which turned into 30 minutes before you know it my mom would be calling me hey I thought you were going to the store. Which store did you go to that takes so long?

Yeah, and that's pretty pervasive and common-place for SO many people! I always get "Yeah, I'm just about to turn onto your block as we speak"..."Great, I'll see you when you get here!" Then ten minutes later, I call and get no answer! Umm... Were they in an accident or something? Then 20 minutes later I get a call "We had to make a pit stop, I'll be right there." I'm wondering where they made a pit stop in a residential neighborhood between turning onto my block and driving two blocks to my house! LOL! Do they think I believe them or something? *sigh*

Yes I'll listen to you @DaddyEvil ... over and over again! No problem! But do I HEAR you? Huh? Wha? Yeah...sure! Why wouldn't I? I can't think of any possible reason not to hear what your saying DE! Not a single one! Well, I suppose there are no double ones, technically, or they'd be twos! Pretty neat! Funny how two times two equals two plus two equals two to the two-th power, right? (no not the tooth power!) Oh were you still talking? I WAS listening...I feel confident I was... Is there something else I'd be better off listening to, I mean really? Anything at all? Hmmm... I'm going to ponder this one while I'm listening to you....just keep on rambling! It's honestly good stuff!... BTW: {Start} - {Finish} ....So your pretty much isolated to the "dash." And my pet peeve (of course) is people that have pet pevees that involve hearing other people's pet peeves. What did you expect?!

I would have to agree with you, @PainsOnSlate, they need to keep thier eyes on the road. It's actually as dangerous as DUI/DWI, and of course everyone will say it depends on how many drinks or other substance the person has had. To that I say, it also depends on how much the person is distracted by using their phone, just the same. I see plenty of people that really shouldn't be on the road in the first place, then you add a distraction to their hand and all bets are off! It would be one thing if they could only injure themselves, then as Charles Darwin would say, they are not very fit members of our species, and they will not be likely to pass on their particular genetic mutation, which urges them to text while driving, to future generations! But the innocent people that they likely change the lives of forever when they run into them make it a completely different game that they are playing indeed!

Well, I sure hope their not made up of the same genetic material as you or I, @PainsOnSlate, because I could try, but even so, it would be very hard to be so selfish, as you so rightly call it! And, yes, I guess my comment didn't fully encompass the lives that are changed by ceasing to exist! But you're 100% on target with that part as well. I'm sure it may sound like I'm just agreeing with you no matter what you say, but I assure you it's the quality of your answer that has made it seem that way! I totally concur, and that's something I rarely say! (Just ask around! )

He sounds absolutely horrible, paigea! Actually, I'm only kidding, I assure you! But it was far more exciting to start my response that way! Yes, I feel it's somewhat like saying, what you have to say is cool and all, but my opinion or topic clearly is more important than yours, so let me just stop you right there and start talking about the truly important stuff, which I obviously possess in my head! LOL...but not so much LOL when someone does it to you! The next time someone (for instance your husband) starts talking about something you should interrupt him and say "It sucks!"...he'll clearly be confused and wondering if you're referring to what he's talking about or something way above his head. Then you wait for him to ask "what sucks?", and you say "To be interrupted when your speaking to someone." I think a handful of these type of remarks might point out the concept to him, or whomever. Give him a taste of that oh-so bitter medicine, and he can't help but notice it, given enough spoonfuls and time! That's my opinion on the matter!

Touché, @bluesa! Nicely played...both subtle and effective! And progress is almost always a good thing! Just change in general is a good thing, but far more important that is the willingness to make such progress or changes (the opposite of being stubborn, I guess). So I'm glad to hear you improvised and it has taken care of your slightly too neighborly neighbors in the check-out lines!

That would be more than annoying, Catherine, that's just outright rude. I don't understand that 'breed' of people and haven't encountered them doing that (specifically) to me yet, luckily! I may possess a lot of less-than-perfect qualities (and I mean a LOT!), but I have a polite nature and respect people as if they were actually other real people inside of that body thing they walk around in, which I'm really starting to believe that they are! I can't understand how people don't have common courtesy, or even understand what it means many times! Now I'm starting to feel a bit peevish just thinking about it!
