So I don't know how well known sweet potato pie is. I have only heard of it a hand full of times in my life, until this year, where I have heard about it a lot more. I think it is this years trendy pie. I don't know though. I had never had it before yesterday. I decided to buy a pie for bestie night. My bestie had never had it either. So it was a first for the both of us. So I bought the famous Patty La Belle Sweet Potato Pie. First I was unaware that you were soppsed to bake the pie, my bestie went ahead and had it cold because she eats pumpkin pie cold, so her theory was to eat this cold too. Since we were short on time, I microwaved mine. We had it with whip cream. I must say that I rather enjoyed it. I think that I enjoy it much more then I like pumpkin pie. I think I had gotten burnt out on pumpkin pie anyway so this is a nice change of pace. I think I found my new favorite pie!! Do you like sweet potato pie? What is your favorite pie?

I have made a pie from pumpkin, sweet potatoes, yams and even acorn squash. To me they all tasted pretty much the same. I would not put mine in the microwave to warm cause it would make the crust mushy.

This crust was pretty firm. It didn't get mushy at all. But I plan on baking my next pie for sure and trying it that way. I have never even heard of making pies out of yams or acorn squash. Sounds very interesting.

@T_gray Any of those squash are orange or yellow fleshed. Butternut squash is pretty sweet even without added sugar.

@sallypup I love butternut squash. Never thought of making a pie out of it. I'm going to have to look all this up. :-)

I have never been a fan of sweet potatoes and I'm not sure about eating sweet potato pie! But, I'd like to try so I can say I tried it. I do like apple pies, strawberry pie, the usuals.

I am not a fan of fruit pies all that much. But hot apple pie with ice cream can be amazing every now and then. And sweet potato pie doesn't really taste like sweet potatoes at all. I don't think anyway.

I don't really like pie but when mom used to make hers I loved them, she never used canned pie filling and rarely added a lot of sugar to her pies. Her Apple pie was to die for.

That makes sense @T_gray I remember when mom started using boxed cake mix, the first one came out so sweet she and the rest of us didn't like it so from then on she'd add extra flour and butter and did something else to the mix so that it wouldn't be so dang sweet. I always liked her cakes and pies for the same reason you liked your moms.

My mom went back and forth between pie filling and homemade. Personally I couldn't tell the difference. I loved them both because my mom made them. Hehe

@rebelann my mom just did that with spaghetti sauce the other day. I didn't even know it was off the shelf until she told me later. She added her own personal touch to it that made it taste like her own. I wish I could cook as well as my mom by adding that personal touch. But I think we will always think our mom's cook better then us. At least I do..

I figured it was something that had sizzled out and they would be easier to find now. Either that or they weren't as popular here in Kansas. But I did hear how they were selling like crazy when they first came out

I have never tried this or pumpkin pie either. I don't think you would come across them too often in Australia.

@T_gray I think it was always regarded as a vegetable and pies were made of fruit. I'm talking a long time ago but pumpkin pie still doesn't seem to be common.

I was just commenting on Tim's about that. I think it might be location on how popular they are. But like I told Tim I thought they were around long enough that the hype sizzled out. I guess I'm wrong though if y'all still can't get one.....I'll consider myself lucky. Hehe. :-)

I was almost thinking this was another version of Shepard's pie. Although making it with sweet potatoes does sound good actually. Might be something I might have to eventually try.
