Reason MyLot Stopped Paying - They're Greedy?

"Now, that it had accumulated so much content and does so well in Google, it’s time for MyLot to cut loose all those people who had been helping them built their website. With much content on its website, MyLot does not need to pay people to provide content or traffic to the website. They can keep all the revenue. This latest move by MyLot had got nothing to do with sustainability or bankruptcy and in my opinion, has everything to do with greed."
This is a section I took out of an article I found online about MyLot. The writer is speculating that myLot stopped paying their members a while back simply because of greed.
I am not really sure why myLot stopped paying a while back, and it's really not my place to question them. However, I don't believe they would stop paying because of greed. That just doesn't seem like myLot to me. Besides that, they started paying again. If they were being greedy, they would have never brought back the earning system.
I think this guy has myLot all wrong. and it's unfortunate he feels the need to share negative things like this about myLot.
Do you write about myLot outside of myLot?
MyLot had closed its earnings program many months ago and here's my opinion as to why MyLot had gone on this path.

Yes, the writer of this article (which is over a year old and was written well before MyLot was regained and reborn by the original owners) has it all wrong. It is purely one person's opinion - and a poorly informed opinion, at that. That person, by the way, has since returned to MyLot and is active here. In fact, @UmiNoor may well wish to modify or qualify her views!
The REAL reason that MyLot stopped paying was that they were actually paying too much (so much so, that they continued paying the members for many months even when the staff weren't getting paid). At that point, the business was transferred to new management who decided to end the earnings program.
In July 2015, the original owners took over the site again and re-opened the earnings program with a new earnings algorithm which should take into account the variabilities of income and thus ensure that the site continues for a long time.
If you are here primarily for the money (as the article's author freely admits was her main reason for being a member), then there is no way that the earnings can be considered a reasonable return for the time spent. MyLot has never claimed that anyone would earn a living here. It is up to everyone to decide how valuable their time is to them and nobody is being forced to participate if they don't feel that it's worth their while!

Most of the time people who write those types of articles are the same ones who didn't use the site properly to begin with. Mylot did stop paying, but they did come back. They have also never been unfair to legitimate members.

I agree. Anytime I have a problem, the admin personally take care of it in a timeley manner.
They have always paid on time, and most of the time early.
I find myLot very trustworthy and I think they really care about their members.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I don't know of any other website that has been around as long as myLot and is still doing well and paying. They all seem to close down within a couple of years.

The person who wrote this article seems to be a nut. To write an article without any supporting facts and data is absurd. Also, it is always easy to criticize any site/ anyone. I do not like to see or read these kinds of articles.
I am here on mylot since 2007. Even when mylot stopped paying, I remained loyal to mylot and never left the site. For me this is the best site, I do not feel like checking any other site.

@kiran8 - Yes, I fully agree with you that such kind of articles are not worth reading and they should better be ignored.

I too have been on this site since 2008 and all those members who had accumalated a certain sum were paid before the site stopped paying so what has been written is just rubbish ! Anyway, there is no need to pay any importance to such articles written out of spite !

Well, they previously went a straight 7 (I think) years of paying their members as promised. That's a long time! I trust myLot.

When it happened, I admit I wasn't too happy about it. I could write about my feelings and complaints, but I wouldn't dare write about "why" it happened - simply because I don't know. Perhaps some felt they had to vent - and putting their opinions out there was the only way to get their frustrations out - I don't know. All the rest of us could do was move on.
In any case, myLot did open their doors again. They had their reasons for doing it, whatever it really was, and well, we had our reasons to come back!

@much2say @ScribbledAdNauseum I think they do a fantastic job of managing the website. If they feel something needs to be done, who am I to question it? They always seem to do what they truly feel is best for the website as a whole and try to make the members happy.

Right! That is exactly what they were doing! They were doing something right, for all of us "Seasoned lotters" to come back.

@sharon6345 Right!
They don't really have to pay us, this is not a "job". They owe us nothing. Our earnings are simply a generous incentive for participating in the myLot community.
That's how I feel about it anyway.

Yeah, it totally didn't have anything to do with the fact that the site was transferred to new owners who decided to change things up.
Nope, it was all based on greed!
Isn't it funny how the ones who accuse sites of acting out of greed always seem to be highly motivated by it themselves?

@yukimori It is his loss if he doesn't want to participate in the myLot community. Some people just have to find something wrong with everything and are never happy.

@Angelee_27 It does if you look at it as what it is: them projecting familiar thought patterns (their own) on others.

We here know the facts. I want to point out at least one fallacy in the article. If myLot were earning from content, they would continue to need new and fresh content. It would not make sense to shut it all down and just use the old content. It would be very stale.

i wish mylot told us back then how we could help
i don't know about content and traffic, but i don't remember seeing a mylot post among the results when i'm searching for something, then and now, unlike other paid-to-post sites.
mylot was a discussion site and i treated it as such. i don't remember full length, informative articles with sources citations back then
i still wish and hope for a slow and steady mylot now that it's back

There was actually no way in which the members could have helped. MyLot could have reduced the earnings, lied through their teeth about the reasons and finally refused to pay many of the members as a certain other site did. Instead, they continued to pay reliably and wound down the site in an orderly and fair manner (albeit with not a lot of notice). They have earned much respect for that and the way that many of the old members have returned is a testimony to that.

@Angelee_27 Ah, before the site started paying again? But Not way back when? They could be referring to either group of owners, couldn't they?

when old mylot changed and stopped the money i didn't mind that i just didn't like the new site.
then membership just dropped like a stone.
a few stayed around throughout the spammy stage but i gave up after a while and have only recently returned.
I do like the setup here but fully admit i miss the old look even though it had problems and was a bit clunky.
I quite often look stuff up on the old site with the way back machine and the old look makes me nostalgic

no but if I did I would not say that as i never knew really why they quit but there were some on the old mylot that wanted it to be like 'facebooi andwere vocal about not wanting to write just to socalize. I do not know why they stopped and would not write an article claiming i did as thats just speculation and not facts. Im just glad that once more the new mylot is paying and they are a good honest admins here.

At this point, I don't care, as they are back to paying again. People just like to start trouble more than anything. I didn't read the article, as it probaly all propaganda anyway. If that pwerson is here, then she now knows what she said in here article, doesn't hold any weight at all. Mylot has never been greedy, as if they were, they still wouldn't be paying us, plain and simple. I do think by them changing the algorithm gives them more money to deal with, so that we can get paid. I am just glad that we are all getting paid again.

I was not here before and i am new so i am not well aware of mylot..even i have not reached a payout but i believe in mylot, its quite good interactive platform with earning oppertunity, the reason why i believe is its not possible to cheat without paying in this kind of interactive platform, if they really dont pay it will get spread within minutes in this platform only, so till the time it is successful there is no scope to such fake newz/reviews
