Parcel Mania!

Just sitting here, watching Interlink go around in circles, as I track my parcel delivery on their map, as I am delivery number 93, on today's route. Now I'm sure their route manager knows what he/she is doing...but so far today, they have been through my village around 3 times, en route to elsewhere, the driver when he eventually gets to my delivery number will then have to backtrack for miles, to get to my door. Is it me ?...Or do others think that everything in life has become unnecessarily complex and complicated.... and we won't even mention those phone calls to 'Customer services'... now that's a really big no-no. So here I am on myLot, twiddling my thumbs, as I daren't leave the house, just in case he takes a short cut and arrives early, or a long cut and is late. So that's my moan for today out of the way!

I have noticed the same thing, too, when tracking a parcel I was expecting. There seems to be absolutely no logic to their route. In fact, it's almost as if they WANT to burn petrol! You would think that, with all the mapping and location facilities available, someone would be able to put the daily deliveries onto the computer and work out exactly what the optimum route is and exactly how the packages should be loaded onto the van to make things as efficient and as quick as possible for everyone.

Maybe they have done but have then had to factor in am/pm delivery preferences etc. I suppose that still doesn't explain why they've pretty much passed Jenny's door a number of times without dropping off the parcel.

@WorDazza @owlwings @Asylum Oh it gets worse...they actually drove past the end of my road, twice after I'd written the post, and my house stands at the end of that road.... not to mention already delivering another parcel to me in the A.M

@bookbar I'd be thinking seriously about writing a detailed letter to the CEO of Interlink, pointing out the apparent inefficiency of their system with details of the journey extracted from the tracking site. Of course, it's probably too late now because I doubt that you took screenshots or recorded the track!

@garymarsh6 Guess they think we're all psychic and will know when their dodgy deliveries will appear, that's where Interlink win out, you do get tracking info at least an hour before due delivery, but they do have a few, shall we say, not quite English drivers, who sometimes have a problem with British addresses

I wish I could track them that exactly because I would be out there to accost the delivery man before my package could "disappear" sometime after delivery.

@Rollo1 Sometimes it works well, others you just wonder how many times they can shoot past your location, before they actually decide to stop off at yours

When the UPS guy delivers a package to me, I'm the last box in his entire truck @bookbar . Geez!

Ah, life was so much more simple when we couldn't track our parcels on the internet!

They tell you what number you are? They sure don't do that in the States. But what they do do is pass by my town my package goes 80 miles to another postal place, then back past my town to the other postal place and finally my package will get here. Doesn't make any sense to me how all that works.

@fishtiger58 Yes they do, even show you a little map that follows the driver, along with estimated time of delivery...this is great, but also a different stressful, when you see that driver criss crossing so close to you and then driving off elsewhere... but at least you don't have to be in for 8hrs waiting

@bookbar In the US they just tell you it will be delivered today. Now the thing is if it's coming through the US Postal Service then you know when you usually get your mail. Mine always comes between 9 and 10 in the morning. If it's coming by FedEx or United Parcel then they just tell you by 8 pm that becomes all day.

The one thing that I really hate about deliveries is the unknown factor of what time someone will arrive. It is ridiculous to think that they can never even predict whether the delivery will arrive in the morning or afternoon, yet that had to be decided the previous day in order to load the vehicle correctly.

Nothing worse than waiting for a parcel and not knowing around what time it will show up

They are always late when you stay at home just to wait for them. I agree, everything in life has become unnecessarily complicated.

Several delivery companies seem to think that Northampton is the same as Notthingham and North London. I've watched parcels bounce up and down the country, sometimes driving within about 10 miles of my house without them actually finding us.

@boiboing Me too!.... and there was me thinking postcodes were supposed to obviate this happening...maybe Dispatch managers haven't heard about it

I detest having to call customer services as thy never seem to know what I am talking about and ay my parcel should be here or it doesn't even exist.
