New users, old content

One way we can all help MyLot to survive is to take a daily look at the 'new users' list. Perhaps you'll find someone with interesting things to say who will become a valued member of our community and perhaps even a new friend.
More likely, however, is that you will be able to detect and report new spammers and plagiarists before they can poison the well. I've just reported four of these troglodytes and no doubt there are many more.
Sadly, they were all from one part of the world - It's probably unfair and unnecessary to mention which part, so I'll leave that detail to your imagination and experience.
I realize that none of these cheats will make any money here, but is that really the point? I don't want an infestation of parasites clogging up the lists of those we should be making welcome, nor do I want corruption to be discounted as unimportant on a platform with higher standards than many of us are used to.
So please make an effort to report all myLot miscreants. Pretty please?

I'm right there with you, I look at the no responses and the new users every day and rarely there is a day when you can't spot a cheater. If we don't stop them there they will continue and make a mess of this beautiful site. I am impressed how fast the cheaters are gone and if not gone at least their copy and paste crap is removed quickly

@PainsOnSlate - I've hit double figures in the past 24 hours, and that's without really trying. Admin has done a great job so far, but it's something which could easily spiral out of control if the community doesn't help.

@troyburns I agree we all need to be on the look out. I didn't get to help today because it was late afternoon before I got to spend some time here.

I've been paying a bit more attention to new users lately. Understandably I kind of avoided that area for a while. It was really nice 'not' being responsible for any of that for a change.

@Namelesss - You were carrying more than your fair share of responsibility at the other joint, so no-one would blame you if you just wanted to write and relax for a while.

@salonga - That's great to hear. It's so easy to do here, and we're getting good support from admin too.

@troyburns I hope so too. I've found some more violators today - all from 'that' country

@jaboUK - Things are pretty clean at the moment, but there are signs that could change if too many people start taking things for granted. I would hope we've all learned a lesson from what was allowed to happen at Bubblews.

@amnabas - That is so true. The less cheats there are, the more time we'll have to chat with genuine members from around the world.

@boiboing - Exactly. With admin all the ball, there's no real excuse for us not to report these blighters.

@1hopefulman - Nicely said. One of the problems at Bubblews was that too few people actually cared about detecting and reporting the cheats. Housekeeping is a lot easier here, and it really is a (small) responsibility for all of us.

@troyburns It was hard to care, when it was clear that Bubblews didn't care.

@troyburns At the other site I used to report too but they paid no attetion. I think they had trust in a few users there who unfortunately were the biased lot and that was part of the undoing of that site.

@allknowing - That's good to hear. I'd much rather be writing about other things too, but I'd hate our members to think that reporting undesirables was always someone else's responsibility. That's already happened at one site we know of...

@allknowing - The plagiarism/spammer situation got completely out of hand so quickly at Bubblews and I think admin there had no hope of keeping up with the necessary housekeeping. I don't think we'll have that problem here though.

@Bluedoll - That's the other reason to check the new users regularly. There are plenty of good new people who deserve a bit of attention.

Hello there @troyburns, the admin is very much active now which is very easy for violators to report. not to mention we can all see the post, and it's mucheasier to navigate now unlike the old days were you have to look at the new ones or in a particular interest, now it's all mixed into a single category.

@Letranknight2015 - The way that myLot has been set up does make it very easy for us to find the new cheats. I like that you can see the first couple of lines of a discussion - that's usually enough to raise a red flag.

@Beatburn - Hi there. Honest writers will be made welcome, no matter where they're from. I haven't noticed too many miscreants from the Philippines, which is great to see. All the best.

@Drosophila - You should try it Wendy - you might find some old friends or even one or two new ones among the recent arrivals. But I understand that keeping up with our followers is the top priority for all of us.

@troyburns thanks for the reminder. How many times do you you think a person should be able to plagiarize and/or spam, scam before mtLot gives them the boot?

@HanVanMeegerin - One. There is clearly less tolerance for that sort of thing here than there was at Bubblews, although numbers are much smaller so it's easier to police.

@Rollo1 - I haven't seen much of you lately Anja. Hopefully you're OK and just keeping busy. Just imagine if Bubbs had had a new user list - so many problems could have been stamped out straight away.

@scheng1 - The rules about plagiarism are consistent all over the world, so there's no cultural excuse. Even though there isn't much money to be made here, it's still theft of intellectual property.

I do spend a certain amount of time each day looking for the bad guys. It is sad and actually in my experience there are two parts of the world where the majority come from, not all mind you but most.

@BelleStarr - The cheats can make things hard for the honest members from these parts of the world, so the best thing we can do for them is get rid of the bad guys as quick as possible.I don't actively look for plagiarists, but it's kinda unavoidable when you're checking out the new user list.

@Morleyhunt - Yeah, I understand that. It can be a little depressing to look at the lists. Some people just don't get it, do they?

I think many excellent websites confront this problem. If the users in the community could fight with the cheaters together, the website would survive in the combat. The administrater of the website is minority and they don't have enough energy to clean the cheaters one by one. What we can do is to fight them together.
