You can spot them a mile away

When you do spot them, report them. Who are they? People from an Eastern country that have an ultra American name like Jane Smith or Bill Jones. They have 1 post, and have made no comments and no responses. Their one post is one mile long and tells you how to shop for some product or another online. They tell you it is easy and secure. Then they link to a website that sells the topic of their post. Guitar straps, athletic wear, foundation garments, horse tack, pet supplies, you name it. Report them every time you see them. They just want to promote a website. Let's keep myLot non commercial and working freely. No spam allowed.

I've reported 3 of these in the last half hour - we seem to be inundated with them these last few days. There doesn't seem to be any way that we can tell if someone else has reported them - if I knew that had happened already I wouldn't bother as it does take time to check them out.

We can tag them as "reported" and I should have done that, we probably hit the same three.

I've never gotten the hang of figuring out how to tell if someone is a scammer/spammer on myLot. I've bugged both Owl and Lamb until I felt like I had worn out my welcome with them and gave up in disgust... I could see (or at least figure out) who was trying to cheat the site on WebAnswers and on Bubbs, but myLot's lowlives continue to elude my senses... Except for one really weird dude who apparently loved everything under the sun about a week ago... It was funny, he wrote post after post telling us how he loved this, that and some of those, too. Many times, he loved one thing and his very next post he loved something diametrically opposite of that! Yes, I did flag them for Alex.

Well, this post discusses one variety of spammer. They were putting up links that sold product that they probably had affiliate status for. The three I reported today were all from India, but that does not imply all spammers are from India, I really do not want to offend my friends from India. They had very American names, a (1) after their name. The posts were longer than this whole page of comments and responses and was in lecture form. They were selling: camera accessories, sexy lingerie, and team franchised sports wear. Especially the sexy lingerie does not fit with the generally modest east Indians I know. Clues on others might be a title that is incomprehensible, a user name from another country, and then a post with perfect grammar. Pick a section from the post and do a search. It will give you the original if it has been copied. I know that Lamb and Owl and others also use a copy detector free software or app. I also report people who are in love with me, and the guy who wanted me to help him move to the United States.

@DaddyEvil That is not the point of participating in MyLot. He is chronically unemployed in his own country and tells us that he has mental health issues. He is not a good candidate for immigration. He began asking for personal information.Often people who are "in love" with people they meet online are just looking for a source of income to support them, I am not rich enough to be anyone's cougar. You flatter me, of course. What if some cutie wanted you to sponsor her to come to the States? Do you know what that involves exactly?

SHOOT! Everything you have explained to me makes perfectly reasonable sense, Garden, except for two points.... 1. Why do you report the guys who are in love with you? I think you could be a fine person for a guy to fall in love with, ma'am.... No need to punish the poor fellow, just because of that, is there? 2. And the person who ask for help moving? I am assuming he didn't imply that you were moving in with him for uhhh... No, I just can't bring myself to finish this tease, even though it would have been funny... well, okay, it would have been funny to me! Don't raise your eyebrow at me! I didn't say it, now did I? Please, teasing notwithstanding, why would you report the guy asking for help in moving? Thank you.

Funny, I haven't seen that many of these critters. I did report someone today who was posting the same thing over and over with a word or two changed.

@GardenGerty I reckon so. I couldn't tell from what they wrote whether they spoke much English or not. I'm sure they've been disappeared by now.

Yes right there is a lot of spammers around here like this. One time a new member with the name of 123 went around and followed so many people on the site. Someone was asking about this person. Well anyhow the other day he finally showed up again and posted a lot of crap on here. Most of it you couldn't read and it was filled the characters and numbers. They are gone now but he was here on the site for several weeks before I ever saw anything posted from him. I'm wondering how many more of them are out there. Come here make an account, follow a lot of people and then leave. Weeks later come back and start posting crap on the site.

@GardenGerty Yes this is what we do. I noticed a few new people who are only posting plagiarism right now and there is a great person who posts the real link on their comments. But still they keep posting one after another and a lot of people are answering them right now. I think this one is wrong and especially they just arrived here.

time for bed, I read that as a website that sells strappy athletic horse supplies, and got an image of a horse with a big southern lady fan flirting with the camera......

I would not have thought of this discussion but out of the first five with no responses, three fit this description. The other two were by a legitimately inexperienced user, but actually provided something to discuss.

If you are not going to profit from your recommendation, it is okay. This is more like an affiliate link. For instance I just got some Outback Pain Relief that I ordered. I think it works. I would tell my friends. I do not get a profit from it, or free product or anything.
