Why Won't The Geese Fly South?

How close have you gotten to a Canadian Goose. They used to just be a part time bird in my area. But in the last 5 to 10 years they never seem to leave. They are in my area all year long. Why are they not flying south to mate like they used to? There are so many in my town that the powers that be are trying to come up with a solution to get them to move on. We have a river running right through the middle of town and I think because of that the geese like it here so they stay.
There are so many in the Island Park that we can't even use the park anymore, and I think some of the citizens are getting tired of it. The geese waste ( if you get what I mean) is all in the grass and starting to tear up the concrete sidewalks. It's really becoming a problem.
The photograph with this post is my hand showing how large the goose's webbed feet are. I took this photo while out ice fishing a couple of years ago.

Most likely because the weather has been so ridiculous the past few years. It is probably confusing them. I wish I still had the picture I had on my old laptop I had one sitting right next to me.

@fishtiger58 I usually only see them when they are going South and then the odd time during the summer months.

@ricki_911 Be glad they don't stay year round in your area, they are becoming a problem around here.

I don't want them down south! They are big poopers and destroy property.

@fishtiger58 We had one goose land in our pond last summer and he(she) hung around for about a hour and finally left. I think it was just resting!

This is the problem we are having. The grass in the park is just covered in geese poop.

@AbbyGreenhill you are lucky, the geese around here have been here for years and years.

We still have a ton of geese around here too... I thought it was just because of how warm it's been lately.

They are so noisy too. When out fishing I just want peace and quiet but that's a no go when the geese are around.

@fishtiger58 Yes, they are extremely noisy. You can hear them way before they ever get close to you. Maybe they don't fly south for the winter, I don't know for sure.

they migrate, I think. even here, some birds we see in V, fly either south or northward.

@ridingbet Not specifically on my property, but at the local park they have just taken over. And not to be gross they poop everywhere, and poop big like dogs. Yuck.

Geese do fly in a V formation, I just wish they would leave here. Every year there are more.

They haven't left in many many years. I hope they go but I have my doubts.

It's a shame that the weather is changing what they have done forever.

They are a huge bird, as you can see by how big their feet are in my photo. And they are mean as well.
