Sorry Ms. Colombia, Ms. Philippines is the 2015 Ms. Universe, Not You

The host, Steve Harvey announced Ms. Colombia as the winner. The outgoing Ms. Universe (who is also from Colombia) walked toward her holding the crown and the two jumped, rejoiced and embraced each other before the crown was placed on her head.
After few minutes, Harvey, looking quite bothered came back on stage and admitted he made a mistake and taking all the responsibility for it. Then the camera was focused to the real winner, Ms. Philippines who was looking quite confused until Ms. USA told her something and she was prompted by the other ladies near her to advance to the center stage.
Then a very awkward moment followed. The crown was removed from the head of Ms. Columbia by the outgoing Ms. U and was transferred to Ms. Philippines.
It was obviously a mixed emotion on the part of Ms. Philippines. She was happy for her victory but sorry and mindful of the reaction of Ms. Colombia who was at that moment, in a very embarrassing and humiliating situation.
Even if this mix-up was not intentional, it is so regretful that Ms. Philippines was herself stolen of her glorious moment which was given to the innocent Ms. Colombia who never knew it will quickly turn to a moment of shame.
But worst was Steve Harvey's situation. It was an honest mistake on his part but this is not enough to appease the embarrassed woman, the raging fellow Colombians, and the angry concerned netizens all around.
But Steve Harvey is only but human and subject to error. It is just that his honest mistake has messed up the entire 'universe'.
Have you made an embarrassing mistake such as this?

This is more than an embarrassing error, I wonder what there is behind this. Possibly the fact that the same Nations should never win twice? Weird. I know that this kind of contests are very criticized because they are manipulated and it shows.

@1hopefulman He said it is human error but he has yet to give full explanation. But he showed the card that clearly showed, Ms. Philippines is the Ms. Universe 2015, Ms. USA is the 2nd runner up, then 1st runner up is Ms. Columbia.

@salonga . . Now you may have not read yet, my young lady friend. All the latina Miss Universe 2015 contestants joined jealous Miss Germany in telling the world that it was in fact Miss Philippines' fault not Mr. Harvey's. Que lastima . . . Las mujeres estupidas de senor satanas!

@antonbunot What they must be out of their mind! How could they blame the innocent Pia? But I read today from Inquirer.net that Miss Germany backtracks and apologizes to Pia for what she said.

Miss Germany is mad that another German girl won and that German girl is not her.

I just feel sorry for the two ladies, for Miss Colombia, who was declared, sashed and crowned and for Miss Philippines. I can feel the emotions of the two ladies..I feel sorry for the Colombians who also follow the Miss Universe closely. It is an honest mistake on the host, but the Miss Universe franchise should make sure to have something in place so it won't be repeated again. Congratulations- most Filipinos including me, are so proud today.

It's either the organizers did this on purpose just to gain more and more viewers and interest from other parts of the world that doesn't like the pageant or harvey was just drunk. The news also stated hours before the coronation night, he was gambling and drinking, having fun. It's possible that he missed out the 1st runner up name, because I remember during the last pageants the first runner up always gets announce before the winner. I think the host was just inexperience....or drunk

Harvey then should be banned from hosting the pageant if this is true. But if this is done for publicity purpose that is really a very, very bad idea.

@salonga because the teleprompter later did mentioned it was Ms. philippines that was proclaim MS. Universe and also wrriten on the card and harvey literally didn't read and mention the first runner up as it was done in the past beauty pageants.

@Sheilamarie78 Exactly, she was even smiling while Harvey was announcing the mistake. Obviously she did not understand because she does not understand English.

@salonga She had the crown on her head and the banner and then was told on stage in public that it didn't belong to her.

I agree with what Perez Hilton said on interview, that Miss Columbia thinks she is the winner (I dislike her putting her hands on her waist as if a braggart), but Miss Philippines came to win. The answer portion of the final questions sealed the faith of Pia, but which was briefly taken away by that Miss Columbia, who in my opinion, is as boastful as ever.

@ridingbet you have a point. When I first saw her, I did not like her facial features. I think she is actually "pangit" and I really wonder why she is ranking second to Philippines in online voting. I actually am more in favor of Ms.USA next to our own Ms.Philippines.

@salonga don't my friend. She is not as innocent as you think she is, because her facial features proved otherwise. She was so over-confident she expected to win. she should have been greeted by the other contestants when she was waving her small flag, but none of the contestants approached her to greet her. it was because they knew from the teleprompter that is is Miss Philippines who actually won.

I wonder if they will forgive him, and ask him to ever host it again. People sometimes have long bitter memories about these types of mistakes. I think most people, as you say, will call it an honest mistake.
I thought that I had made a mistake once, but I was mistaken about that!! (humour)

His Mistake just started a racial war between Colombians and Filipinos online. Those 2 countries are pageants crazy countries. Its like a FIFA game that became violent. 2 countries are now attacking each other in Social media because of his mistake.

Doesn't look like it is a drama. Once the crown has been put on the head, the joy she had felt, she had shared can be recovered by apologizing? Or it is a drama where feeling doesn't matter??? It is real bullshit!!!

@chetanamoktan, I wish it was a comedy of errors but it was not. Very humiliating and hurtful to Ms. Colombia and also very sad for Ms. Philippines who was unable to savor her moment.

They traumatized the winner and runner up for publicity. I wont blame the girls to what happened but I know the organizer did it get hype. Pageants are popular in Asia, Africa and Latin America but they were ignored in the West. This is the way they want to make it popular in the west,

Also at this time of the year, pressures seem to increase these days, when we should be trying harder to relax (LOL if we do try harder though to relax, we cannot relax. Relaxation involves not making any effort, I think, it's akin to meditating.)

Well done to the Philippines! Pageants like Miss Universe are often ridiculed, but there is a lot of national pride after a win. (I still remember when Jennifer Hawkins won for Australia in 2004.) I'm very disappointed that Harvey - and many of his supporters - think that he suffered more than Miss Colombia because of this mistake. What an astonishing ego!
