In China, whether men and women, we usually called the unmarried people as Single Dog. But I'm confused why called they are single dog? It is disrespectful to the dog! Dog must single? What's the relationship with the dog?
What do you call people who are unmarried ?

I think the "single" is normal. I am curious that the dog have any contact with single?

As per your discussion, I am dog too. Thank god I have been never called a 'single dog'. I can't remember of anyone.

I don't know either, and that's funny, disrespectful to the dog!
I don't know why they would call them that, maybe to make them feel bad, but I don't see why? I have been single since 1980, never married again, although I had 2 close calls, whew!, I prefer this life to someone controlling what I do and trying to oversee me.

I have never thought of them as single dogs. That is an interesting term. We just call them single.

It's a Chinese internet word, no other country uses it.

@allisonwish It's a combination of self-deprecation and humor, and it is said that the Chinese movie "A Chinese Odyssey" has something to do with this word because of the line "He's like a dog".
