Money does grow on trees

All of us have heard our parents say that they are not ATM and that money does not grow on trees. I bet they are partly right. At least they are right that they are not ATM. However, they are wrong about the part that money does not grow on trees. Money grows on both trees and plants. If not, we will not have to pay for our food. The farmers will not have income after a whole year of hard work. A single almond tree is a great asset to the farmer. If you have many different edible plants, and trees in the garden, you will save a lot of money.

That is why in some countries, the farmers plant trees that will produce good wood for furniture. It takes many years for the trees to grow, so they view it as a kind of retirement fund for their own age.

When i was little i also considered my parents as ATMs. I push the withdarw button and out comes money. I asked money from them and automatically money came out of their pockets most often with "friendly reminders" to spend their money wisely. But now that i am old i have to toil and do my part at earning for my own existence and survival. Planting trees that bear fruits like our mangos and coconuts ensures a better future.

haha, I bet your parents will ask you for money when they are old and retired. By then, you will be their ATMs. Ask, and you will have to give! I think Philippines is a great country if you have your own house and a large place to keep pigs and grow trees.

@scheng1 Big YES to that ... my country is truly great though its not perfect. We have farmers here who are able to send their children to college. When their children graduate and earn big salaries they become their parents ATM's

How true, if one has a prosperous garden or orchard, that is money that is grown.

And I, on the other hand, have spent a lot of money buying apples from the supermarket! We live in an apartment block, so there is no land for planting trees. We have to buy all the fruits from the supermarket.

we had a garden a few summers in a row and we saved lots of money because we didn't have to buy fruits or vegetables we grew them so we mostly just had to get meat because we also made lots of our snacks.

Wow, that is really good to hear. I think if your garden is big enough, you can keep a few chicken for the eggs too. It will be more troublesome, but more fun too. I really envy those of you with garden, because I live in high rise apartment and have no way to plant so many things.

@scheng1 We lived in the countryside lots of land the garden had corn, watermelon, squash, zucchini, tomatoes, okra, green beans, grapes, peaches, pears and apples and cantaloupe. it was work but it was worth it and fed us all summer. I also did a lot of fishing and we ate the fish so like I said it saved us lots of money on food. Now we live in a mobile home park so no garden.
