Wow! Magnesium for Sleep!

I have always taken melatonin to help me to sleep, but I found it also left me too groggy the next morning. It was very effective, and it is part of my arsenal of tricks to get the sleep I need. But I saw online that magnesium also will "keep you asleep." So, I got some, and started taking it at bedtime. My gracious! It does exactly that. And it helps me fall asleep, too. I am not groggy in the daytime with it, although I expect it is still in my system the next day. The reason I think that, is because if I take a nap, it is a deep nap. So, I just wanted to spread the word about magnesium for those of you who may have trouble sleeping. I take one tablet at night before bedtime, is all. Some nights I skip, as I think maybe I am getting a bit too much on a daily basis. It's worth a try, for we all need our sleep, yes?

I didn't know magnesium would help you sleep. Maybe I need some too. I used to take it but then stopped.

@hereandthere I think someone told me it was a good idea - that women are often low in magnesium. I didn't need a prescription. However, none of these supplements are cheap.

I always assumed that the minute quantities of magnesium in many foods was adequate to satisfy the average human need.

I would have to have a complete blood test before I take this.

Sounds like you have some health issues. Some folks who have mineral imbalances, as in low/high potassium, sodium, etc. would want to check with a doctor first. I don't know that he/she would require a blood test, unless, as I said, you already are having mineral or electrolyte imbalances, or other problems.

I take magnesium about every other day. Not only does it help you sleep but it will also help keep you from being constipated and it helps with nerve pain. Did you know that if you have a really bad craving for chocolate, it could mean you are deficient in magnesium?

If not a blood test, at least a consult with your doctor. Don't want to get too much, although I can't imagine that one pill a day is going to do much harm. Magnesium is just a mineral, but for those with health problems already, it would be a good idea.

It's nice to hear that you've tried it and it works. My mom has trouble sleeping so maybe she should take some
