Not the best way to spend Christmas

This Christmas is a memorable day for a bad reason.
My friends cancel the outing today, so I have no plan for Christmas Day.
In the end, I decide to do housework.
That must be the one of the dumbest decisions I have made in my life.
The problem with housework is that when you do not do, you are happy and relaxed.
Once you start doing, one thing leads to another, and you can spend a few hours and still feel that you have not done anything much.
The result is that I spend practically the whole day on housework.
I wash the laundry, declutter the store room, declutter one bedroom, mop the floor, clear the fridge of expired sauce, and that takes practically 8 hours of my time.
The store room looks more like a war zone now. There are still as many things, and I have yet to put everything up the shelves.
The bedroom is slightly better. At least the corners are cleared of stuff.
The fridge does not seem empty.
I guess this cleanup shortens my lifespan by a few days.

Well, that is really not a good idea to spend Christmas. Anyway, isn't it good to see the house becoming much cleaner and organized now? Perhaps it's good as it's preparing for new year or Chinese New Year.
I think your problem with housework is my joy for doing housework. The more I work on it, the more satisfied I will be, as the house will be more organized.
I wish I can dedicate 8 hours to do the housework at once, but I usually get distracted from my computer and my children as well.

I just have to control the urge to go out and buy things for the bare shelves.
There are still a lot of things to do before Chinese New Year.
I think once I have thrown out the stuff, and I have bought the items for Chinese New Year, the house is as cramped as ever.

I'm sorry your Christmas plans were canceled and you forced yourself to do housework. I could have thought of a few thing to do other than housework, but think of it this way - you won't need to do what you already did, and your war zones will take on a semblance of order before too long. I hope you can relax and enjoy that part of the day still left to you. Merry Christmas.

I really had no plans for today other than being with my husband, and we were together some, but I could have done housework as well.

Doing housework during Christmas is not a bad idea at all. Those who only get the chance to do this on holidays welcome this oppotunity. Long holiday breaks for office workers give them a chance to catch up on their much needed clean up jobs in their homes.

I hope you got it all done and now can relax. I started mopping the floors and stopped half way through

Sorry your friend had to cancel! I run into that issue when I'm decluttering as well, where once I get started, it seems to have a life of it's own. I was actually doing that yesterday in cleaning out the spare bedroom. I'm glad it's all over with, but it did take so much time.

Yes, that is the problem with housework.
Once you get it started, you have to finish it somehow.
I think the bigger problem comes much later, when we see shelves bare, and the room slightly emptier than before, we may have the urge to go out and buy things to mess it up again.

EEk! Yes often decluttering leads to rearranging, which leads to a jumbled mess until everything is as you want it to be. I'm sorry you have had an uneventful, droll day.

If only my friends have not canceled the outing!
We have arranged for a day to Sentosa Island where the festive season is in full swing.
Too bad the weather today is not that good, so they have decided to cancel the trip.
The day is very hot followed by a thunderstorm in the late afternoon.

I feel exactly the same way, sometimes cleaning makes more work and doesn't feel satisfying.

@scheng1 Yes I can see this one. Here it is very warm too on the islands. So your Christmas time is your summertime like it is here on the islands. No white Christmas for you either. But there is a beautiful ocean here, canoes, and a lot of swimming and finding ways to stay cool.

well, if you enjoyed what you did, then at least you had a unique way to celebrate Christmas, my friend.

Sorry your friends canceled and you had to spend the day alone. But atleast you have a clean house now so you can just relax and not worry about it.

Not the perfect timing I must say :) But the feeling of satisfaction after doing all the cleaning is still great .
