Recently I started eating steel cut oatmeal for breakfast. To my surprise it has a pleasing nutty taste. It has more flavor, to my taste that regular oatmeal. I typically add cinnamon and artificial sugar to it. I have also tried it with apples cut up in it. I am looking forward to trying it all different kinds of ways. It may take about a half an hour to cook but it is well worth the wait. Have you tried steel cut oatmeal? I understand it is supposed to be very nutritious.

Never tried that kind. I eat the regular one with sliced bananas and milk and a touch of brown sugar.

@marlina I love it that way. I recently found out I have diabetes and they suggested I try the steel cut oats.

What makes it "steel cut"?

@HazySue Ah, I understand - and it looks exactly like in your picture. I can see how this would take longer to cook than rolled oatmeal. I think I have had porridge made from this grade of oatmeal when staying at a guest-house on the Scottish Isle of Bute once, it was very tasty.

@pgntwo it is cut with steal into nuggets instead of processed into flakes like regular oatmeal.

I recently tried steel cut oatmeal for the first time about a month ago, and I actually liked it better than regular oatmeal!

@moffittjc I did too. It is more filling, tastes a little nutty, and good for you.
