No Such Thing As a Slow News Day, Only Slow News MEN

One of my favorite TV shows of all time is Lou Grant, the hour-long drama that spun off from the classic sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show. In one episode cocky reporter Rossi said he couldn't find any information and shrugged, saying, "Must be a slow news day." "There is no such thing as a slow news day," Lou replied in his trademark gruff voice. "Only slow news men." A deadly tornado has hit Dallas, Texas. Dallas is the ninth largest city in the United States. And the Weather Channel is showing a rerun. And CNN is showing a rerun. And Fox News is showing a rerun. Is it because it's Christmas weekend that these supposed "news outlets" are unmanned to deal with breaking news? Or is it, as Lou Grant famously said, just a case of slow newspeople?
