Tornado Warnings Last Night, Flooding Today

We have had very scary weather here the last 24 hours. It started with driving rain on Saturday morning, and then just as we were getting ready to leave work last night, turned into tornado warnings. There were three one right after another. While they didn't touch ground, the take cover sirens went off, and we had to get everyone in the building downstairs into shelter. This was the first time since moving to Oklahoma that I have experienced this, and it was very frightening. The ride home after the tornados passed was scary as well. There were several flash floods, and I had to turn around a number of times to find an unflooded road. I saw people thinking they could make it by driving into deep water on the road, only to get stuck halfway through. I don't know if they misjudged how deep the water in the road was, or if they thought if they went fast enough they could make it through, but in either event, it was a bad decision. The fact that it was very dark out may have caused them to not be able to see the water as well. The electricity was out, so there were no street lights. We're expecting more rain over the next few days. My husband has to take a flight tomorrow and I'm stressing over the drive to the airport. I really hate highway driving to begin with, but highway driving in the rain is the pits. Unfortunately there is no reasonably priced airport transport near here, and he can't get reimbursed if he takes transport to get to the airport. I'm hoping that because his flight isn't until early afternoon, that I can just leave very early and drive slow.

The rain comes at the wrong time and wrong place. it should fall in areas where the forest fires are raging. It sure will make the families of firefighters happy.

Yes it would. I don't mind rain from time to time, but that torrential rain that caused the flash flooding is so frightening.

Stormy weather can be very intimidating. Water over the road can be difficult to judge.

Yes, you are absolutely right, especially in the dark, which makes it harder

Thank you! The tornado watch and warning has passed, but now we're in for some freezing rain. Thankfully I don't go into work again until Wednesday, and it is supposed to warm up by then.

There is a lot of flooding in the south too and a few deaths from just that. We are expecting more rain and storms tomorrow and I hope to not hear the tornado word.

I hope you don't hear it as well. I saw the news about what happened down south of us with the tornadoes, and it is very upsetting. Those poor families.

Having three tornadoes right after other must have been very scary. Hope you have a safe trip to the airport. I hate driving in bad weather also

Thank you. It got a little scary at one point, when it started sleeting, but thankfully I found an alternate non-highway route to the airport that was much less stressful, and I took that. Everyone's flights are delayed and my husband is hours and hours behind his connecting flight, so I will be so glad when this day is over.
