My Heart Was Heavy This Christmas

This Christmas was full of emotion, thankfulness and sadness. I was thankful that our daughter and grand-daughter were here with us and healthy as our daughter was in a horrible car accident just before Christmas last year and was nearly killed. I am thankful that she has recovered and is healthy and happy. Two days before Christmas this year, we had to have one of our dogs laid to rest. Meisha, was our Siberian husky and had aged and become very ill. She was around 12 years old and had canine diabetes and cancer. She is being greatly missed! I hate it when bad things happen around Christmas time! I just thank God that my human family is all healthy and they were all here to spend Christmas with us.

Thank you, @Anna Christmas should be all about joy and happiness. There should be a "law" that bad things cannot happen around Christmas!

Thank you so much, @PainsOnSlate She was very close to our hearts and we miss her so much. Sadie, our lab, is missing her too. It's sad to watch as Sadie looks for her. Our daughter has recovered very well, but as with any major injury, she has her moments of pain. We are just so very thankful that she is alive and has no major after affects! You are very kind, Marilyn, thank you!

Oh Sheila, I'm so sorry - our animals are part of the family and we feel desolate when we lose them, no matter what time of year it is. However it seems especially worse when it happens at Christmas. Thinking of you.

Thank you so much, @jaboUK Yes, Meisha was a big part of our family and we are missing her greatly, but she is happy and no longer in pain now, so that is making it a bit easier to deal with. It is bad when it happens at Christmas as we will think about it every Christmas now.

I am so very sorry for you loss. I know what it feels like to have to make that decision as we had to do the same thing back in March. She was a very beautiful dog. I've never seen those colors before.

Thank you, @simone10 I'm sorry you had to do the same thing, it is a very difficult decision to make. She was a beautiful dog. She was a rescue, our daughter brought her home one evening after talking the owners into giving her up. She had been chained up since she was young and we didn't really know how old she was.

Glad to hear your daughter has recovered and you had great time with her and your grand-daughter. Sorry to hear about your husky, she is very beautiful. I told my son our dog has gone back to heaven and became angel again, and she will always be there watching and protecting us. She is now living happily with her other angel friends as well.

@kaka135 Thank you, Lee! I am feeling better. Our 4 year old granddaughter was here on Saturday as was asking about Meisha. I used the "core" of your story and made the rest up as I went, but I think it made her feel better.

@sgbrown I think it is the last kind thing owners can do for their pets. It's a pity we can't ease the last days of our loved ones are terminally ill and in pain.

@sgbrown I had to put down a dog a few years ago and I still feel the pain of it. They are like children to most of us.

@HazySue Yes, they become such a big part of our lives, it was a very hard thing to do, but I couldn't let her be in pain any longer. The vet said it would only get worse. I cried so hard when I told her good bye.

That feeling when your pets are also part of your family. They eat together with you, they sleep in your same bed and even relieve stress from you. Their memories will live forever.

Yes, @trivia79 She was always there to greet us when we came home and of course got a little treat of scraps after our meals. She didn't sleep with us, but she used to sleep beside the bed. We will always have fond memories of her!
